Role Summary

The role is to develop the Human Machine interface with an end-to-end responsibility for the whole functional User Experience. Therefore the market-specific user requirements of ADAS and HAD functions (e.g. in US, China) should be collected and used as a solid basis to create/ specify the functional HMI concepts. The role is also in charge of an evaluation in the context of use and the iterative process for the technical implementation. In conclusion the HMI needs to be tested and finally approved by the Sr HMI Engineer.

Role Responsibilities

Management of user specific Requirements (20%)

  • Responsible for the detailed context of use analysis which includes an identification of the specific user groups, tasks/goals related to the interactive system, the physical/ social user environment and the mental resources which are needed

  • Communication and synchronization of the user requirements with other relevant markets

Conception of the functional Human Machine Interface (30%)

  • Responsible for the conception of the whole functional User Experience regarding

  1. Visualizations (e.g. in the augmented reality Head-Up, instrument cluster, central information display)

  2. Function behavior (e.g. if driver distraction is detected, if there is a takeover request based on system limitations…)

  • Evaluation of the concepts in the market specific context of use with a realistic car simulation regarding HMI

  • Optimization of the concepts in an iterative process until the best usability of the systems is guaranteed and all requirements have been met

  • In charge of specifying the HMI concepts and ensure a full traceability during the function development

  • Communication of the concept in committees (e.g. Audi UX/UI committee)

  • Describing the final concepts for the owner's manual as well as official communication documents

Implementation / realization (20%)
  • Responsible to verify and prove the technical implementation of HMI concepts

  • Identify mechanisms for a high quality visualization of system feedback

  • Responsible to discuss the implementation with the functional development departments of ADAS and HAD systems and the electronics development

  • In charge of involving the product liability point of view

  • Responsible to specify the technical realization as well as the components of the car network

Approval & Testing (30%)

  • Responsible for the adequate definition of HMI test cases, test locations and scenarios considering the specific needs of the HMI functionality and the current level of maturity

  • Analysis of HIL test reports

  • Responsible for error management and the definition of solutions

  • In charge of giving an HMI approval



  • 7+ years of work experience


  • Degree in Psychology (technical, business, computer science or comparable)

  • Advanced Degree in Psychology (technical, business, computer science or comparable)(desired)

General Skills

  • Effective analytical and conceptual skills to derive adequate solutions for challenging problems

  • Knowledge of Volkswagen Group/ AUDI AG internal product development processes and related IT-Systems

  • Wide and reliable network within AUDI AG and the Volkswagen Group

  • Excellent planning and organization, project management and time management skills

  • Project management (desirable in innovative technology environment and agile methods)

  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to work independently

  • Excellent communication skills

Specialized Skills

  • Proven working experience in HMI development for ADAS, especially automated driving

  • Expertise in User Interface conception, specification and implementation

  • In-depth knowledge in HMI evaluation
  • Certification in User Requirements Engineering

  • Prior experience working with software like DOORS, AVW, KPM, Linguist, Axure, Group-CIP/Jira, Cameo, PreVision, SBT…

  • Strong English language and German language skills (written and spoken)

Work Flexibility

  • Flexibility to travel (domestic and international)
