Summary and Qualifications:


Ensure effective development, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of our overall occupational health programs.

Serve as primary advisor to the Banfield P&O Leadership team regarding associate safety, wellness, and is responsible for programs to prevent illness or injury to associates and damage to the environment.


Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.

  • Create and implement strategies tied to overall well-being, health promotion, disease prevention and prevention of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.

  • Develop and implement programs to promote associate health including physical fitness, weight-reduction, smoking cessation, early-detection compassion fatigue, stress, and other related programs.

  • Promote wellness programs to associates, through active, ongoing communications program.

  • Collaborate with the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) and Talent and Learning to develop safety training and education programs demonstrating the use of safety equipment.

  • Develop a pro-active process to evaluate and recommend suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health and safety.

  • Review workplace accident investigations to identify causes and determine how such accidents can be avoided in the future.

  • Provide consultation on ADA cases as a subject resource.
  • Provide medical review of risk assessments to determine any potential occupational hygiene impact.

  • Partner with other teams to recommend measures which will help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials (i.e., as appropriate, work with the HSE team, Hospital Operations, and Commercial to inspect and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations).

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple teams including (but not limited to) Benefits, Compensation, HSE, Legal, Finance, Field P&O, Facilities, Worker's Compensation and outside vendors on compliance related issues.

  • Other job duties as assigned.
Special Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time.

  • Project timelines and work volume / deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.

  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.

  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.

  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.

  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.

  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • Registered nurse (RN) license and Certified OHN with license to practice in the United States is required.

  • Ten years relevant professional experience in occupational health, wellness, leave management and /or workers compensation is required.

  • Program development and management experience within a multi-unit location/business is required.

  • Experience providing nursing management of occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses is required.

  • Experience working with corporate and business leaders is required.
