Banner Health is conducting a national search for Senior Director Facilities Operations to join our team. In this critical role you will help drive standardization and implementation of industry best practices across the enterprise to drive efficiency and value. Banner Health Facilities Operations is made of 500 professionals supporting maintenance and repair activities for a 19M square feet portfolio made up of 30 medical centers, 300 ambulatory facilities, and 8 corporate center across six states, accountable for $140M operating budget including $55M in utility expenses.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for driving and supporting standardization of programs and processes for Facilities Operations across the system, with focus on cost, quality, and service. This position has overall accountability for providing leadership, direction, and innovation of all facilities operations programs, practices, procedures, technology, and enterprise strategies including but not limited to those developed and support through the Remote Operations Center/Energy Management, Shared Support Services, Regulatory, System Administration, and Performance Management functions. Administers all widely used vendor service contracts and Shared Services programs. Serves as a subject matter expert across the broad spectrum of Healthcare Facilities Operations. Monitors and collaborates across the organization on financial and operational performance through defined performance metrics.


Essential Functions

  • Manages managers, supervisors and/or professional staff. Hires, develops and motivates employees to achieve objectives.

  • Achieves operational, financial or service objectives using breadth of knowledge of healthcare operations and management expertise. May manage budget for large and/or complex projects or programs. Participates and may lead task forces to plan, implement, and coordinate facility activities to maximize service quality, effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Accountable for the performance and results of a function or facility or process. Develops departmental plans and policies to achieve organizational priorities; six to eighteen months future outlook. Makes decisions guided by functional business plans that impact the support and funding of services, processes, technologies, etc.

  • Conducts in-depth analysis and/or evaluation of information to determine the cause and appropriate solution. Foresees and resolves complex customer issues or problems. Manages resources to resolve conflicting objectives and priorities within own area and to ensure financial, service and operational commitments are met.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    Advanced degree or equivalent working knowledge in the field of Facilities Management/Construction, Mechanical Engineering or Business Administration.

    Depending upon assigned area of responsibility, position may require applicable certifications and/or licensures, including but not limited to: RN; MD or DO; Drivers License; Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA); Certified Protection Professional (CPP); Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU); Associate in Risk Management (ARM); CPA; SPHR; Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT); Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM); Certified Facility Manager (CFM); Certified Coding Specialist (CCS); Certified Professional Coder (CPC); JD from an American Bar Association accredited school; admission to a State Bar Association.

    Significant technical and managerial experience, typically gained through seven to ten years relevant experience.Working knowledge of facility management systems including space management, CMMS, energy management systems, and mobile device management systems.Project management skills to implement standardized programs and technology across the enterprise in a matrix reporting environment.Analytical skills to develop strategies to achieve enterprise-wide financial targets, efficient workflow, and desired service levels.Executive level communication and presentation skills.Understanding of facility building components and systems.People leadership skills - Three direct reports, thirteen to seventeen FTE reporting organization.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements related to the environment of care.Understanding of enterprise energy/utility management systems and strategies.Experience with developing and utilizing business intelligence systems to measure performance.

    Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
