Summary of Position:

Supports the day-to-day operations of the END Department to ensure timely results and efficient workflow; protects the confidentiality of each patient's information in compliance with HIPAA; provides documentation required by Finance and the Business Office; enters orders into affinity, enters requesting physician and records interpreting physician; Is responsible for tracking END reports from acquisition to interpretation and filing; determines priorities in workload and alerts appropriate personnel when patients are awaiting procedures; is responsible for scanning documents into Epic; is responsible for scheduling procedures and reminding patients; bills for procedures by using Epic (training required); performs the Medical Necessity screening as required; inventory supplies, verifying stock levels; receives supplies and ensures supplies are properly stored; rotates stock to ensure those products earliest to expire are used first; provides routine clerical support, answers phones, routes callers and relays messages. Faxes, files reports and manages departmental documents. The EMG/EEG Technician performs electroneurodiagnostic testing according to established policies and procedures, ensuring testing is safe and effective. Testing is performed based on the ages of the population served; Neonatal, birth to 1 month, through geriatric - 65 years or older. The EMG/EEG Technician evaluates the patient to determine patient's status and history, determines appropriate electrode placement based on test ordered, performs QC testing on instrument, customizes recording according to preliminary findings and completes testing according to standards. The EMG/EEG Technician demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to meet the individualized needs of all patients served by the Electroneurodiagnostic Department. The EMG/EEG Technician works under the supervision of a physician who is responsible for interpretation and clinical correlation of the results and reports to the Manager of Electroneurodiagnostic. The EMG/EEG Technician must be cross-trained and be able to perform all END studies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma

Experience:

  • 1 year of recent Neurodiagnostic testing experience; 3 years preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of EEG, Evoked Potentials, EMG

  • Computer skills-proficient in data entry and word processing

  • Ability to read and communicate in English, bilingual preferred

Certifications/Licensure:

  • ABRET Registry in Electroencephalography required. Tech must hold current registry with ABRET.

  • BLS certification
