Summary of Position:

The Human Resource Leave Specialist provides advanced level human resource expertise for leave of absence and worker compensation administration.

The specialist is responsible for administering the Leave of Absence program and ensuring compliance with state and federal leave of absence laws. Included in these responsibilities are, identifying leave types, approving or denying requests for leave, calculating short term disability pay, monitoring leave duration, ADA compliance and coordinating return to work.

The specialist is responsible for workers compensation claims including, ensuring claims are opened timely, meticulously following the appropriate processes for each open claim, keeping workers compensation records up to date and maintaining a good relationship and open communication with workers compensation adjusters. Maintain Labor Law posters and pamphlets, ensuring they are up to date at every site location. Responsible for OSHA logs.

Finally, the position requires a caring, compassionate professional with an HR background, strong organization and communication skills, who will thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associates Degree required
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in business administration, human resource administration, or other related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Three years of progressively more responsible work experience and demonstrated knowledge of HR laws, FMLA, CFRA, PDL, SDI, ADA, Workers' Compensation, benefit administration and other federal regulations pertaining to administering leaves of absence.
  • Two years of experience administering leaves of absence preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of HR and leave of absence regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal, active listening and customer service skills with compassion.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with employees and management at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with HRIS programs.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and relevant software.
  • Strong presentation skills, advanced problem solving and communication skills, and leadership qualities.

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Professional Certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) desired.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide consistently exceptional care at all times.
  2. Serve as point of contact for and manages all Leave of Absence inquiries, educating employees and managers on the leave process and related policies for all company leaves of absence, including FMLA, personal leave, military leave, jury duty, bereavement leave, Workers Compensation, etc.
  3. Process all leave of absences, determine eligibility for various leave programs and provide employees with required timely paperwork and notices, keeping the company in compliance.
  4. Provides employees with accurate information on deductions from pay relating to absences, medical certification requirements and return to work dates.
  5. Oversees the tracking of leaves and ensure proper paperwork is returned.
  6. Reviews and evaluates all work-related accident reports for completeness and clarity of data.
  7. Coordinates and participates in a safety and wellness program aimed at reducing the incidence worker's compensation-related injuries.
  8. Communicates with department managers regarding their employees on leave.
  9. Coordinates with department managers for the Return to Work process.
  10. Assists with accommodation interactive discussions.
  11. Responsible for maintaining all leave documentation.
  12. Enforces compliance with applicable Federal and State OSHA regulations to prevent citations and penalties.
  13. Responds to internal and external HR related inquiries or requests and provide assistance.
  14. Assembles appropriate medical information and facts regarding claims for cases pending litigation.
  15. Respond to the needs of the department by performing other duties as necessary.
