Design, develop, and evaluate the construction and design of US Navy ships and installation of ship system concepts in the areas of ship hydrodynamics, system design, concept development, and integration analysis of surface ships, unmanned vessels, and combatant craft. Conduct hull form and hydrodynamic performance assessment, including development of hull form geometry and lines plans, hydrostatics and curves of form, resistance and powering estimates, propulsor design and performance, appendage design, maneuvering analyses, seakeeping analyses, development of model test plans, and observing and analyzing data from model tests and full-scale trials. Lead and perform naval architectural and engineering work related to the form, strength, stability, performance, and seakeeping characteristics of new naval vessels and plans to alter existing naval vessels and recommend and implement design changes as necessary. Conduct hydrostatic, weight and stability analyses, including center of gravity and buoyancy estimates, trim, as well as intact and damaged stability analyses. Conduct and analyze structural design, develop hull girder bending moments, structural configurations, and scantlings in accordance with appropriate rules and design standards. Develop of superstructure, mast, and local support structure to withstand primary and secondary loads.
-5+ years of experience with development of ship general arrangements, space arrangements, and outfitting using 3D ship design software and AutoCAD
-5+ years of experience calculating key vessel metrics, including hydrodynamic and hydrostatic characteristics, seakeeping, performing design concept studies and prototype/scale model development and US Naval surface combatant design
-Knowledge of key regulatory body rules, the DoD acquisition process, including regulations, directives, and statutes, the Navy's application of the DoD Acquisition process, and Naval ship acquisition roles and organizations
-Ability to work independently or as part of a design team preparing drawings and other design documents;
-Ability to review the work of other engineers for accuracy and correctness
-Ability to lead and collaborate with mixed teams comprised of government and industry personnel
-Ability to apply problem solving techniques when faced with complex problems under uncertainty
-BS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or Engineering discipline
