Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Graduate Academic Diversity will facilitate recruitment and retention efforts for domestic under-represented masters and PhD students. The incumbent will assist the Associate Dean for Diversity in coordinating efforts with academic departments and other DEI professionals across campus to ensure a culture of inclusivity for the graduate community. In partnership with Graduate School leadership, the Assistant Director will execute policies and processes ensuring that diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) are important elements of graduate programs culture, mission, and operations. The Assistant Director of Graduate Academic Diversity will provide critical support for the Graduate School's efforts to develop a more inclusive academic community where all members are valued. Leveraging the strategic Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) as a guide, this role will use data and help create assessments to monitor progress and address representation and climate concerns in individual departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; a masters or advanced degree is preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Five to seven years of direct or related experience including, but not limited to working in higher education, student leadership, or related field; prior experience working in diversity or multicultural affairs preferred.
  • Strong commitment to and demonstrated skills for working with individuals with diverse intersecting identities, backgrounds, and experiences.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills required, ability to effectively engage and present to a wide variety of constituents, both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrated experience effectively working and establishing rapport with diverse populations.
  • Experience leading diversity and inclusion training and education programs for a variety of constituencies. Proven experience working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels in a complex environment to facilitate positive processes and initiatives coupled with measurable outcomes and deliverables.
  • Ability to represent the Graduate School at University and external meetings.
  • Experience planning and implementing events is required.
  • Highly motivated individual who is able to anticipate issues or delays and think critically and creatively to identify flexible solutions.
  • Team player with a record of conferring with colleagues, aligning work with larger goals, and coordinating with multiple offices.
  • Strong time-management and organization skills.
  • Strong sense of ethics.
  • Attention to detail.
