About the Opportunity

We seek a Patent and Agreement Data Coordinator to join a growing team. The Patent and Agreement Data Coordinator is responsible for the Intellectual Property Operations in support of the Brown Technology Innovations (BTI) Technology Transfer group and is responsible for development and management of daily operational workflow processes and functions.  This position also works closely with the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) as many operations functions cross between teams.  The Patent and Agreement Data Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Operations, and takes direction on completing complex projects requiring strong analytical, technical and organizational skills.

Working with Brown patent attorneys to execute the patent strategies of the Associate Director, in the areas of i) Invention and Agreement Compliance; ii) Budget Administration and iii) Revenue Collection, this position ensures commercialization of Brown Intellectual Property assets. This is achieved through the management of docketing worldwide patent office deadlines and requirements, verifying payments of annuities required to maintain patents, and federal compliance with Bayh-Dole regulations.  Additionally, this includes managing required NIST iEdison reporting related to intellectual property portfolios developed by Brown inventors through support from the approximate Two Hundred Fifty Million dollars of grant funding received annually at Brown University.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in business, finance, or other related concentration.
  • 1-3 years professional experience in related field required
  • Strong legal matter management knowledge required.  
  • Work experience within a major university preferred. 
  • Working experience with information systems such as Inteum and CPA Global, financial analyses and contract management required.

Job Competencies

  • Very strong organizational, analytical and problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated skill working with Excel and computer databases to create ad hoc reports for data analyses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Working understanding of the Bayh-Dole Act.
