Category Manager

The Category Manager takes ownership of a specific area of business and develops the omni-channel merchandising strategy to deliver on the financial objectives. The Category Manager will partner with the DMM to develop and execute a data driven, customer focused strategy for assortment, pricing, omni-channel customer experience and marketing for a specific category of business.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and deliver an inspiring category strategy
  • Leverage data and insights to analyze performance and understand trends to drive assortment and business decision making
  • Be the expert on the customer, the market and competition for assigned category
  • Develop, mentor and lead a team consisting of one or more Associate Category Managers or Assistant Category Managers
  • Partner with the financial planner to own and develop plans for the category that deliver on financial goals
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive category results while managing to financial goals
  • Partner with the product development team to develop category strategies for Owned Brands
  • Be tenacious and accountable in driving business results and achieving financial plans
  • Develop and execute seasonal or yearly category line reviews to improve assortments, merchandising standards and omni-channel execution
  • Conduct effective negotiations with vendors on availability, product specs, distribution, delivery deadlines and cost geared towards maximizing the company's profits and surpassing margin goals
  • Perform and manage administrative functions as needed


  • 4+ years of Merchandising experience, preferably in a similar role
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of category management and operations gained through progressive experience
  • Product and customer obsessed
  • Digital savvy
  • Highly organized with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills to inform and align teams and stakeholders
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record for building effective teams and developing direct reports
  • Comfortable working in constantly changing and fast paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills and comprehensive understanding of Excel and Outlook required
  • Some travel required
