The Role

 Centurylink is seeking a Lead IT System Engineer with demonstrated architecture and systems engineering experience to mitigate cyber intrusions onto CenturyLink's ISP network in support of US Government networks. This is a highly technical and hands-on position requiring the selected candidate to both lead and participate in multiple team environments and to provide independent efforts to all aspects of system integration including design, needs analysis, design review, testing, implementation, and validation.  This position will be responsible for systems in support of CenturyLink's Government and commercial Managed Security Services platforms addressing .gov and critical infrastructure protection missions.
Basic Qualifications and duties.


The Main Responsibilities

• Strong technical skills and understanding of information systems, network protocols, firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, log management, network behavior analysis, vulnerability scan tools and processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a consultative manner with others, i.e. establish rapport, interview/fact-find, define requirements, present options/recommend solutions, follow-up, and customer focused behavior.
• Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment with changing requirements and competing priorities.
• Knowledge and experience should include computer network operations, network access and protection techniques and technologies, software coding/scripting, encryption and cross domain solutions.
• Trouble ticket response; customer interface and escalations.
• Monitoring, configuring, troubleshooting Tier 2 and 3 events on Operational Network.
• Develop and implement patch management methodologies using various automation toolsets.
• Candidate will train/mentor personnel on developed processes and procedures.
• Candidate will understand patch compliance and system audit data.
• Candidate will lead and direct ongoing operational projects.
• Candidate will provide recommendations for system automation.
• Candidate will troubleshoot hardware and software issues as they arise.
• Candidate will document issues and associated resolutions to problems.
• Plan and coordinate maintenance & administration of assigned systems.
• Candidate must adhere to policies, processes and procedures within your areas of responsibility.
• Candidate will plan, coordinate and execute projects related to areas of responsibility.
• The candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in system architecture and engineering disciplines. Specific technical knowledge of enterprise level networking and network security. 
• Recommends optimized solutions to support current and long range planning and collaborates with project team leads in the selection, recommendation and approvals of tools and technologies to improve efficiencies, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.
• Designs requirements-based technical solutions in support of new projects and assists with transition of the solution and design into production.
• Evaluate, Build, Integrate, Test and Prepare systems for operational use and patches for rapid remediation and deployment.
• Ability to work in a consultative manner with others, i.e., establish rapport, interview/fact-find, present options/recommend solutions, follow-up and customer-focused behavior.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering and Developers.
• Familiar with Network Monitoring tools.
• Proven ability to work in a dynamic team environment with changing requirements and competing priorities.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair issues and communicate information affectively to junior personnel and provide lessons learned for future events.
• Candidate will create training manuals and train new and existing team members.

What We Look For in a Candidate


• 7+ years of experience in Information Security, Information Assurance (IA), or Cyber Security programs.
• 7+ years of experience with system security concepts, system security assessments, threat and vulnerability management, penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, vulnerability mitigation, and/or implementing and managing penetration testing tools.
• 7+ years of experience in reporting status and recommendations for improvements to either federal government or commercial leadership.

• Available 24/7 for Network Outages and Maintenance window work.
• Must be available for rotating on-call and work after hours as needed.
• Candidate must be a US Citizen with an active Department of Defense TOP SECRET clearance.
• Understand how network devices interact with Systems.
• Experience with Linux (Redhat, CentOS) at the command line and familiar with server level technology (Apache, JBoss, SQL)
• Enterprise systems experience from the standpoint of knowing how to manage a large number of servers: engineering, deployment, operations and maintenance.
• PXE, Kickstart, Automated system builds.
• Thorough understanding of virtualization and virtual networking (VMware).
• Familiarity with IPTables and SELinux.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting LDAP, Kerberos, OpenSSL certs, system hardening.
• Experience with data center servers including blade servers.
• Experience with mass system configuration management.
• Experience with Remedy, Monitoring Tools (i.e. Solarwinds/Nagios/JIRA)
