An IT Technical Delivery Manager, or Software Engineering Sub-Chapter Head (SCH) as known internally in Chevron, is a people manager and technical leader role. You will lead and enable Software Engineering Chapter employees and contractors across the IT function to grow technical and professional capabilities, develop engineering best practices and enable agile value delivery for the Digital Platforms. You will partner with Platform leaders and fellow Chapter Leads to determine the right resource placement.

As an SCH, your primary responsibility is to the people in your team – ensuring that the members are growing engineering and architecture skills, working to enable resources to deliver cost effective, scalable design and driving value.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise on technology solutions, consistency, and quality by leveraging appropriate digital delivery tools, technologies, patterns, and practices. Help develop and evangelize world class engineering and organizational practices and share technical expertise and consistent ways of working.

  • Participate and be involved in Platform digital delivery initiatives where technical domain expertise can be leveraged.

  • Provide and align with IT engineering guardrails and best practices and help develop and maintain technology standards. Perform assessments of team members against these standards.

  • Facilitate the technical and professional skills development of team members based on platform/business need and employee career aspirations.

  • Drive performance management of team members by collecting and sharing feedback to evaluate performance and create plans to address development areas. Recommend employee promotions or position changes.

  • Conduct recruiting and sourcing activities by acquiring talent with relevant profiles, developing strategic partnerships with contracting companies, and partner with Digital Platforms to ensure talents remain fit for purpose.

  • Perform resource management and placement activities by partnering with Digital Platforms and understanding the right mix of talent to drive business value.

This position is primarily envisioned to manage Application Engineers, Software Engineers, and Architects.

Demonstrated experience leveraging technical skills and functional knowledge in software engineering and systems architecture to achieve required business outcomes.
