The duties and responsibilities of the Interventional Radiology Supervisor include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for accurate and cost effective inventory/supply management to include ordering, obtaining and entering required research, documentation and VIRA requests for new products and clinical utilization.

  • Assists Director and Asst. Director to ensure radiation safety guidelines are enforced throughout the department. Assist management to ensure that the interventional equipment is inspected and remains compliant with VDH standards. Maintains film badges and QC for personal productive apparel, as required by the JCAHO.

  • Assists Facility System Administrator, providing guidance and troubleshooting the PACS System. Assist FSA with PACS clean up. i.e.: unarchived images, unspecified images.

  • Renders patient care in a professional and courteous manner. Monitors patient's condition and communicates with the appropriate caregivers as needed.

  • Maintains a working knowledge with respect to CPT coding.                              

  • Maintains competency and proficiency with all Interventional Radiology equipment in order to obtain quality images.

  • Complies with radiation safety guidelines for patient and self.  Utilizes all personal protective equipment.   Operates Interventional Radiology equipment safely.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform all necessary computer operations (i.e.: Meditech, RIS, PACS) to ensure proper procedural documentation and charges. 

  • Renders patient care in a professional and courteous manner. Explain all procedures to the patient. Performs physical assessment by checking IV's, catheters, tubing, etc.  Communicates and coordinates all Interventional Radiology procedures with the appropriate caregivers. 

  • Utilizes independent judgment and competence with regard to assisting the radiologist in administering medications, contrast agents and all types of patient care. Maintains sterile technique during Interventional Radiology procedures. Proficient with IV injections.

  • Reviews each exam for technical accuracy (i.e. technical quality, correct anatomical positioning, annotation, etc…) and completes verification process in PACS.       

  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient information according to HIPAA Policy and Procedure.

REQUIRED: Graduate of AMA School of Radiologic Technology. Responsible for continuing education credits as mandated by the ARRT for licensure.


Required: American Registry of Radiologic Technology

Required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider 

Required: IV certification (will receive at facility post-hire)

Preferred: ARRT Certification – Cardiovascular / Interventional

Preferred: American Society of Radiologic Technology

Preferred: Virginia Society of Radiologic Technology


REQUIRED: Minimum 5 years experience as Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.

PREFERRED: Multi-years experience as Interventional Technologist, with progressive management experience.  Experience with PACS System operations.
