The Staff Outpatient Pharmacist demonstrates excellent customer service in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of Covenant Healthcare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. The staff outpatient pharmacist enters authorized prescriptions into the computer, and then compounds and dispenses medications to our outpatient customer population. Monitors work of the Outpatient Pharmacy technician to ensure accuracy, conformity, and timeliness of medications he/she prepares. Consults with physicians, patients and the public as necessary regarding proper medication use and dosage, potential side effects, drug interactions and adverse drug reactions. Provides education to the patient for medications dispensed. Provides Pharmacy services to patients of all ages. Performs other duties as assigned.

Remains flexible and provides cooperation in staffing requirements as required to provide care to our outpatients.

Communicates with all customers in a professional, therapeutic, and courteous manner.
Has the necessary Pharmacist clinical and distribution skills necessary to provide safe, efficient, and effective outpatient pharmacy services to our patients according to the guidelines as defined by Covenant HealthCare and the Pharmacy Department.
Collaborates effectively with all health care disciplines to facilitate patient outcomes based on safe Pharmacy practice.
Enters or verifies prescriptions efficiently utilizing the QS1 computer application taking care to clarify any questionable, inaccurate, or incomplete prescriptions as necessary.
Bills all third party payors for prescriptions filled through the computerized adjudication process.
Performs a yearly controlled substance inventory and other physical inventories as Covenant stipulates.
Checks and monitors the work of the technician in the preparation and dispensing of all pharmaceuticals before they leave the department.
Is able to effectively use all equipment including cash registers, benefit card readers, and any other items necessary to complete a sale of a medication to a patient.
Assists the outpatient technician and/or personally orders medications necessary to maintain inventory of needed pharmaceuticals.
The compounding of all extemporaneous pharmaceuticals for which it is appropriate for pharmacist preparation.
Completes necessary management reports and performs computer software updates as needed.
Updates and maintains knowledge, skills and competencies related to area of practice and ages of patient population.
Participates in unit meetings and activities which support unit function and the overall goals of the organization.
Other duties as assigned.


Other information:
Graduation from an accredited school of Pharmacy
Registered pharmacist with current licensure in the State of Michigan.
Attends inservice programs and continuing education activities to meet the organization's expectations.
Minimum of one year of retail pharmacy experience preferred

Computer competency including but not limited to QS1 and Lotus notes
Ability to utilize all reference material needed to provide outpatient prescriptions safely.
Has the training and abilities necessary to be a Outpatient Retail Pharmacist
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work well with all our customers and able to be tactful in often hectic and stressful situations.
Pharmacist skill set including dispensing and clinical activities
Sound judgment in handling confidential or sensitive issues and material.
Able to supervise technicians and clerks effectively in dispensing, compounding, and workflow issues while on duty.

Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs.
Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, visual accommodation, color vision and field of vision.
Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, far vision and depth perception.
