  • Medical Laboratory Technicians are dedicated health professionals who are specially trained in the field of clinical laboratory testing. They collect blood samples and receive other body fluid samples for analysis, perform laboratory tests and submit results in a timely manner. Lab results are used in the prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Medical Laboratory Technicians continually strive to provide high quality service to the patients and residents. They are an essential component in the successful achievement of the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center's goals.
  • Education and Experience:
    • Associate Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science, or HEW Certificate. Must provide diploma of highest degree obtained (minimum of High School diploma).
  • License/Certificates:
    • ASCP certification within one year of hire.

    1. Responsible for obtaining, processing, and analyzing blood and body fluids.
    2. Responsible for complete, accurate, and timely reporting of laboratory findings.
    3. Responsible for verifying positive patient and specimen identification.
    4. Responsible for verifying and maintaining specimen integrity.
    5. Utilizes AIDET model of customer service to interact with patients calmly and pleasantly.
    6. Communicates with providers, Lab Manager, or Lab Coordinator regarding any patient concerns.
    7. Responsible for calling critical results within 30 minutes per protocol.
    8.  Identify abnormal results, reference, linear, and critical ranges.
    9. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide variety of laboratory instrumentation and analyzers.
    10. May be assigned to Microbiology in addition to MLT core lab sections.
    11. Perform daily, weekly, and periodic QC, calibration, and method verification as needed.
    12. Complies with all COLA, CLIA, JC, AABB, HIPAA, CMS and OSHA regulations and CRMC policies and procedures.
    13. Maintain and retain complete and accurate records per protocol.
    14. Perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, taking messages, faxing/photocopying, obtaining valid orders.
    15. Assist Phlebotomists, Patient Access Specialists, and other healthcare team members as needs arise.
    16. Assist patients in way-finding and understanding.
    17. Perform light housekeeping duties as needed.
    18. Maintain a safe, neat, and well stocked work area.
    19. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
