GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

Hospital Specific • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times. • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures. • Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. • Follows The Driscoll Way customer service standards set forth by the Hospital. • Maintains annual education requirements (web based training). Physical and emotional health adequate for attendance requirements and performance. Department Specific • Ability to identify current needs and anticipate future needs that support the hospital based education program. • Meets with parents to explain hospital based school program and complete paperwork necessary for enrollment process. • Transporting students to and from classroom. • Assisting teachers with contacting home schools as needed, preparation of classroom materials, grading and recording students work. • Assists teacher with student instruction. • Assisting with coordination of records between hospital and home schools. • Assists teacher in coordination of discharge needs with staff of home school. • General Clerical Duties to include answering phone, typing reports, faxing and filing. • Communicating with hospital staff to ensure that specific needs of students are met, attending weekly care conferences. • Data entry for monthly educational report for CCISD and Director of Patient and Family Services to include names and ages of patients served, their home based school, their length of educational experience, and problems with referral process / or re-enrollment process (if any). • Assists the teacher in providing reports for CCISD as requested. • Completes special projects as assigned by teachers and /or Director. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Strong knowledge of and effective in administering hospital school based policy and procedures. • Makes and implements decisions compatible with Corpus Christi Independent School District and DCH organizational goals. • Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure. • Provides direction to Volunteer(s) assigned to the classroom. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: - High school diploma. - Two or more years in the educational setting a plus.
Corpus Christi Independent School District assesses academic needs for students who are enrolled in Driscoll Children's Hospital based school program. The Teacher Assistant will provide support to the teacher who provides academic consultation and instruction to enrolled patients.
