The Career Counselor serves as a key leader of the Career Services team that provides career counseling, event coordination, program administration, and outreach that support the career development needs of FSU students.Description of Work Continued:
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Career Counselor serves as a key leader of the Career Services team that provides career counseling, event coordination, program administration, and outreach that support the career development needs of FSU students.
Under general supervision provides individual career assessment, counseling, group and individual educational and career development and services.
Collects, analyzes, and organizes educational and career information through records, tests interviews, and other professional services.
Individual assists students with career development and locating, applying, and securing employment.
Assists students in developing personal and professional skills needed to successfully reach their intended career goals.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Provides excellent customer services to internal and external constituents of the office. Demonstrates a pleasant and polite demeanor to all visitors and constituents.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Individual must have a four year degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of four years of related work experience.Knowledge skills and abilities:
Knowledge of educational and career development test administration and interpretation.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to evaluate student applications and/or supporting documents. Knowledge of career counseling principles and practices.
Skill in rganizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to design, develop, and present outreach materials and workshops for students, parents, and other community organizations. Ability to organize, and coordinate events that will enhance the chances of a high rate of graduate job placement. Ability to design data bases, analyze data and effectively make decisions based on data. Must be skilled in the use ofMicrosoft Office products, as well as career development related software and the internet.
