Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Director’s primary responsibility is to execute a career development and planning program integrated with the academic preparedness of FSU students. The Director collaborates with all units within the university as well as local, regional, and national organizations seeking to hire FSU students for cooperative education / internship opportunities, full-time and part-time employment, and volunteer / community service initiatives.
The Director serves as an integral member of the leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs. He/She is responsible for developing policy, implementing procedures, developing and obtaining budget approval, training staff and managing the day-to-day operations within the office. As well as implementing placement and career services programs for students and alumni of Fayetteville State University.

Description of Work Continued:


•Provide instructional/educational programs to assist students with career/occupational exploration, self-analysis, goal setting, leadership development and related areas.
•Assist students with resume writing, interview techniques, job search strategies, to prepare and enhance skills required to enter the world of work.
•Collaborate and develop relationships with academic departments and key personnel to connect students with employment opportunities.
•Build relationships and establish collaborations with a full range of internal and external colleagues and constituencies to advance student employment.
•Cultivate a full range of prospective employers (for profit, government, not-for-profit, and contract agencies) to promote opportunities for FSU students.
•Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for adult learners with specific strategies for engaging them in the career development process.
•Demonstrate the effective use of technology to engage all students; specific knowledge of the effective use of social media to reach various student populations.
•Cultivate shadowing experiences, internships, and cooperative education with prospective employers.
•Gather and maintain data on the progress and activities of Career Services.
•Represent the Division of Student Affairs on various committees.
•Provide input, analysis and information as needed on special projects.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Master’s Degree in counseling, student personnel administration, management, business administration or related field. The university welcomes candidates with relevant experiences in other settings with proven effectiveness and capacity to implement effective partnerships and programs.

Knowledge skills and abilities: Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with university experience, and tangible evidence of outreach and marketing to prospective employers.
