Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Division of Institutional Advancement serves to connect external parties with opportunities to partner, support and participate with Fayetteville State University and its programming. The division is responsible for all development and fundraising-related activities and the planning and organization of university relations and public affairs programs.
The division is organized to conduct the major following functions: Major gifts solicitations, annual giving and relationship management, planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, alumni relations, capital campaign planning and implementation, processing and acknowledgement of gifts, prospect research, Integrated branding and marketing, public relations, crisis communications, publications.

Description of Work Continued:

Primary Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Development, the individual will be involved in the overall personnel management and supervision of divisional staff and the establishment of their goals and performance objectives. The Director of Alumni Affairs will assist in developing and implementing successful operational strategies for programs, events, and plans that support the university’s alumni and future alumni that support Fayetteville State University’s Strategic Priorities.

The Director of Alumni Affairs will work closely with other members of the Institutional Advancement leadership team. The Director of Alumni Affairs major responsibility will be to manage the day-to-day operations designed to increase Fayetteville State University’s success in raising the university’s public visibility to its internal and external constituencies, among FSU’s alumni, through traditional strategies and those meant to reach alumni throughout social networking sites. Other responsibilities include overseeing planning, managing, and evaluating Alumni Affairs programs; cultivating relationships for the university; working with IA Development staff to steward alumni donations; developing, training, maintaining alumni volunteers, and coordinating. The Director will strategically engage with alumni to increase giving to the University. The Director will oversee the future alumni program, alumni chapter development and engagement, serve as the University liaison to the National Alumni Association and alumni reunion classes. Supervisor experience is required to oversee division staff. Travel is required.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); minimum of five years of progressive development and alumni affairs experience in an educational or non-profit fund raising environment, management and administrative experience, effective supervisory and motivational skills; effective report writing, documented cultivation and solicitation experience, computer literacy, especially through web activities, and recruiting, training, and managing the activities of volunteers.
