Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The department of Information Technology & Telecommunications Services’ mission is to provide technology services to academic and administrative units. The services include day-to-day technology support to faculty, staff and students, management and maintenance of academic computer labs, deployment of classroom technologies, implementation, and maintenance of administrative software & hardware systems, campus-wide network and internet provision, and distance learning technologies.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
This position’s primary purpose is to manage the distance learning center in the Telecommunications building on the main campus of Fayetteville State University. Management of this facility includes maintenance of the distance learning equipment, troubleshooting, coordination of delivery of courses and video conference meetings. Additionally, the occupant of this position will provide technology consulting in deploying similar technologies in other facilities on campus and get them certified by the MCNC network control center.Description of Work Continued:
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for managing the Distance Learning Center located in the Telecommunications building. Management of this location currently involves the following: scheduling & coordinating distance learning courses for various academic and administrative units; operating and maintaining the media equipment to accommodate academic instruction; consultant to various campus units/departments when considering distance learning/video conferencing technologies; and provide customer service to faculty, staff, and students who require emerging media and distance learning services. In addition to the before-mentioned responsibilities, this position will be required to conduct research, advise, and make recommendations to faculty and staff concerning various emerging media technologies. This position will also provide technical support for broadcast video and audio equipment including conversion & distribution equipment, video switchers, audio mixers, branding & CG devices, MPEG encoders & decoders, video servers, studio equipment, fiber optic transport, etc. This position requires working knowledge and skills of various emerging media software and video conferencing applications such as: Skype, Zoom, WebEx Meeting Center, Adobe Connect, BlueJeans, and Cisco Meeting Place, which are currently being used in the production environment.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and 2 or more years of experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, math or engineering or related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum of 2 years of experience in the information technology field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on an exceptional basis.Knowledge skills and abilities:
