Grand Strand Medical Center is a 325-bed acute care hospital serving residents of Horry and surrounding counties. Our hospital offers the only cardiac surgery program, neurosurgery program and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) in Horry and Georgetown counties and is a designated Level I Adult Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center by South Carolina DHEC.

The Medical Technologist performs tests and procedures in one or more areas of the clinical laboratory. Medical Technologist are accountable for accurate results, the proper use of quality control materials and evaluation of those results. They must recognize the interdependency of tests and conditions that affect test results. Participate in continuing education, competency and proficiency testing. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: MUST BE CURRENTLY REGISTERED OR ELIGIBLE FOR REGISTRATION AS A CLINICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST BY AMT, NCA OR AS MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST BY ASCP OR HAVE PASSED THE FEDERAL HEW EXAM. MUST MAINTAIN CURRENT REGISTRATION AT ALL TIMES. (CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASSES MAY BE REQUIRED).
B. Education: MUST MEET CLIA QUALIFICATIONS FOR TESTING PERSONNEL. UNLESS GRANDFATHERED, REQUIRES BS OR BA IN CHEMISTRY OR BIOLOGY, OR BS IN MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY DEGREE WITH 12 MONTHS TRAINING PERIOD.
C. Experience: PREFER ONE YEAR IN A HOSPITAL LABORATORY (HIGH COMPLEXITY TESTING).
D. Special qualifications: MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO ESTABLISH WORK PRIORITIES AND HANDLE SEVERAL PROCEDURES SIMULTANEOUSLY. MUST INTERACT WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS. CONTACT WITH CLIENTS MAY BE REQUIRED; GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS ARE IMPORTANT. MUST PROTECT PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY AT ALL TIMES.
