Position Summary: Category Marketing Manager

Do you love music and have a passion for Category Marketing? As the liaison between the marketing team and the category team, you would be responsible for developing, implementing, executing, and analyzing the assigned category marketing strategies designed to drive market share growth and category leadership under the overall goals of the enterprise.

This role will lead the marketing activities on behalf of the assigned category including new product introductions, product lifecycle marketing, and category positioning. You will work to ensure the right products are powerfully placed in marketing tactics to connect with new customers, retain current customers and expand purchases and engagement with our brands. You will ensure a "best in class" overarching category marketing strategy with a clear focus on reputation and growth, based on the mission and goals of the Guitar Center enterprise.

You will be shaping the category-related marketing strategies based on consumer insights, transactional data, vendor knowledge, industry trends, competitive activity, customer segmentation and analysis to directly drive demand, purchase intent, and engagement within our brands.

Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Develop annual, strategic category marketing plans that identify trends, gaps and opportunities for the category.
  • Recommend programs and promotional activities to build overall category awareness and strengthen the market position of the assigned category across the Guitar Center Enterprise.
  • Develop a formalized process that gives quantifiable reasons to implement category-specific marketing programs.
  • Forecast, measure, analyze and report the impact of marketing programs.
  • Collaborate with category managers to understand and support business objectives.
  • Partner with cross-functional expertise groups related to the category, connecting and coordinating marketing efforts across key marketing partners.
  • Monitor competition with regard to marketing/go-to-market tactics and identify opportunities to demonstrate authority and leadership while raising the category share of voice.
  • Act as subject matter expert to guide category questions, merchandising, and marketing direction.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

To join our band, you'll need the following experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing or related field.
  • 6 years minimum of relevant marketing experience
  • Solid understanding of marketing data and analytics, able to provide insights and decision-making based on data and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience driving measurable results through customer marketing efforts
  • Experience creating and executing marketing plans.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Drum skills and knowledge is a plus but not required
