Provides direct patient care, documentation, administration of medications, minorlaboratory testing, and communicates with patients, health care providers, pharmacies and vendors within the scope of practice intended by the Licensed Registered Nurse regulations of the New York State Nurse Practice Act. Makes decisions regarding urgency of needs, and triages emergent care situations to the appropriate care provider. Collaborates with residents, physicians, and social workers in clinical decision making and follows up on patient care needs.
Has fulfilled the requirements to be a Licensed Registered Nurse in NY State; BSN preferred. One to two years experience in direct nursing care preferred. Experience with patients of all ages, ambulatory care and telephone triage preferred. Computer literacy essential.New York State licensed RN. Current American Heart Association CPR and AED certification (BLS for Healthcare Providers). Knowledge of age-specific medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology. Familiarity with health care systems, regulations, policies, and functions. Understanding of documentation standards.
Knowledge of equipment, supplies and materials needed for medical treatment. Understanding of basic laboratory procedures including preparation and screening.Knowledge of infection prevention, infectious disease management and control and safety standards. Ability to use multi-line phone system, including transferring calls and paging.Skill in reading and following written and oral medical orders. Skill in initiating appropriate emergency procedures.Skill in handling a number of tasks simultaneously. EMR skills (with training) as outlined below:Navigate all sections of the EMR. Ability to identify and locate clinical information in various sections of the EMR.Familiar with the horizontal and vertical tool bar functions.Document patient visits using electronic record templates.Document patient phone calls utilizing EMR note schedule.Compose and send electronic task; reassign tasks.Copy task to note.Navigate scanned documents.Enter and renew existing medications.Manage pharmacy preference.Proficiency with print function (select section and printer selection).Fax documents from EMR.Utilize menu filters for task views and chart reviewer.Review patient problem list.Review patient allergy list.Navigate and populate the patient Health Maintenance Plan (HMP).Document medication treatments and vaccinations accurately using EMR vaccination section.Understand and utilize the various audit functions of the chart.Understand the ways in which HIPAA and privacy laws apply to the electronic medical office.Proficiency in aspects of GE Flowcast (appointment scheduling) Computer skills as outlined below:Ability to navigate from desktop to a variety of applications.Ability to copy and paste documents.Basic Microsoft Outlook email skills (open new, to, cc, send).Basic electronic filing skills (name a file, save file, save as).Basic typing capability; basic keyboarding skills.Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word.Ability to use manual dexterity to perform medical treatments.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations
