Job Summary: To coordinate and carry out all surgical scheduling functions for Bariatric Surgery and General Surgery Offices and to support the office assistants by providing customer service and performing general administrative tasks as needed. Duties and Responsibilities: Surgical Scheduling Work closely with the Patient Coordinator and have weekly meetings regarding SWL patients in the pipeline and close to surgery Update database for provider Update calender daily with patients scheduled for surgery Obtain accurate demographic information for scheduled patients and ensure it is consistent with Meditech System Work effectively with O.R. Schedulers to maximize surgeons# proactivity with regard to sequential scheduling of cases Maintain current schedule of surgical cases for each provider and communicate to them in a timely fashion all last minute schedule changes and issues that could affect an upcoming case Relay booking information to others who need to be aware of surgery booking in order to ensure that the appropriate resources are available Obtain prior authorization for insurance coverage of a surgical case as required To accurately communicate the status of the History and Physical patient reports dictated by the surgeon for scheduled surgical cases Prepare and distribute patient admission forms and properly completed surgical consent forms to appropriate departments prior to the date of surgery Schedule patients for pre-admission testing Schedule post-operative office appointments for patients Educate patients with regard to pre-and post- operative care and to provide patients with appropriate written instructions for care To provide/coordinate surgical patients information regarding local rehabilitation facility options following hospital discharge Coordinate with primary care physician office and other other offices as necessary, patient#s medical and cardiac clearance as needed, for surgery, including authorization for pre-operative stoppage of certain medications Communicate with other departments relative to surgical patient care needs Patient Check-In Patient Check-Out And any other duties as assigned Qualifications/Job Requisites: Education- High School Graduate Licenses/ Registration- Clinical MA preferred Experience- 2 years experience in a physician#s office or similar environment; experience in Spanish/ English medical/health interpreting preferred; experience working with third party payers and working knowledge of ICD-9 and HCPC coding relative to Bariatric Surgery preferred.
