8:00am to 5:00pm Job Summary

Works autonomously in the day-to-day operations of the Device Clinic under the clinical supervision of the cardiologist or electrophysiologist. The clinician will perform follow-up visits of loop recorders, pacemakers, defibrillators (AICD), and Cardiac Resynchronization (CRT) devices (both in-office and remote) in accordance with department policies and procedures.  Work requires professional level of knowledge to perform device interrogation, evaluation and reprogramming based on histograms, internal electrograms and patient symptoms.

·       Management and follow up patient care in office and remote

·       Perform pacemaker, AICD, CRT and loop recorder evaluations per protocol to ensure normal device function and safe programmed settings

·       Make appropriate changes in device programming when symptoms or monitor strips confirm a problem such as PMT, atrial or ventricular arrhythmias, capture or sensing abnormalities

·       Evaluate histograms and patient symptoms to tailor rate response settings

·       Evaluate device remote downloads for normal and abnormal function. Notify appropriate clinician with new onset atrial or ventricular arrhythmias. Send follow up letters for normal remote checks and initiate phone call follow up with abnormal results

·       Evaluate stored electrograms to assure appropriate sensing and therapy provided by the device

·       Evaluate and document changes in heart failure algorithms as recorded by the device

·       Utilize resources such as other cardiac device colleagues, physicians or technical services to assist with assessment and interpretations of internal electrograms and  ECG's

·       Evaluate and document checks performed at the hospital and emergency department performed by company representative or in hospital remote interrogation system, bill professional component

·       Document in the device chart as well as the electronic health record for continuity of care

·       Inspect implant site of device and document healing process in patient chart with photograph. Notify physician or mid-level provider with hematoma, drainage or other concerns.

·       Educate patients and family regarding device, home monitoring and follow-up

·       Provide phone triage services for device patients and device related issues

·       Maintain expertise as new technology becomes available, including new programmers and programming of new devices

·       Coordinate scheduling of elective device replacements once replacement indicator has triggered including appointment with Electrophysiologist or mid-level provider as well as notifying the hospital scheduler of expected replacement date

·       Assist with research documentation and device follow-up

·       Provides patient care and follow-up to ensure that all Device Clinic services are of high quality

·       Complete appropriate charge entry and diagnosis code prior to closing the encounter

·       Comply with FDA guidelines and regulations regarding implantable devices and recalls

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelors: Exercise Science (Required)


ACLS Certification - AHA, BCLS Certification - AHA


Able to provide service to patients of all ages according to population served. Ability to communicate well with all levels of personnel, patients and employers and maintain a team-oriented environment. Excellent phone etiquette and ability to relate in a caring manner to all patients. Must be dependable, able to work flexible hours and perform a variety of job-related tasks. Ability to work within job description and task list independently with minimal supervision. Ability to wok extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include but not limited to, evenings, weekends, holidays, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.
