Performs various professional duties assisting the physician in carrying out cardiovascular diagnostic procedures according to the accepted hospital and department policies and procedures. Work requires a professional level of knowledge to perform tests and calculate data for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease for patients from fetus on through geriatrics.

• Operate and maintain specialized echocardiographic equipment in a variety of settings. Understand the physical properties of ultrasound and doppler echocardiography. Select appropriate transducer for patient and setting controls on machine. Complete computer manipulation of echocardiographic data. • Follow physicians orders and performs echocardiography examination in two dimensional, M-Mode, color flow mapping, and doppler modalities. Obtain all measurements and calculates data necessary to complete test. • Echocardiographic evaluation or tomographic cardiac anatomy in multiplanes. • Interpretation of hemodynamic information derived from blood flow and the effect of altered intravascular pressure or electrical activation on the echocardiogram. • Interpretation of the following categories of pathology encountered in daily echocardiographic examination; acquired valvular heart disease, congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, diseases of the myocardium, pericardial disease, cardiac masses and diseases of the aorta. • Takes the responsibility of contacting designated cardiologist in the event of a "STAT" reading of an echo is requested. • Assist cardiologist in transesophageal echocardiogram in ambulatory OP setting and in the operating room, by operating ultrasound equipment, monitoring vital signs and providing the patient with continued support. • Assist physician during transesophageal echo cardiography in an inpatient, outpatient, or surgical setting. Basic knowledge of sterile procedures therefore required. • Cleaning and maintenance of ultrasound equipment: • Exterior machine kept clean on daily basis. Check to see that monthly cleaning of filters is done by the bio-med department. Report any malfunction of equipment to department supervisor. • Order and restock echo supplies. • Responsible to take "call" rotation as per department policy. • Assist in heart center activities when available according to orientation of such. • Contribute to the "Customer Relation" philosophy within LRHS by striving to improve all customer satisfaction measurements. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Committed to the continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service.
