Maintain all types of floors throughout the hospital by daily auto scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, extracting and bonnet shampooing as directed. Assume the responsibilities of Assistant 1 as needed or directed.

Complete cleaning procedures with appropriate disinfectant:

  • The cleaning of fixtures, furnishings, ceiling, windows, walls, dusting, and floors/vacuuming.
  • The use of equipment and chemicals.
  • Respond to pages.
  • Complete cleaning of patient rooms, discharges, exam areas, public areas, completes terminal   cleaning of invasive or isolation areas.
  • Cleaning and changing of curtains and cubicles as needed.
  • Collection and disposal of general waste/hazardous waste.
  • Dispensing of paper products, soap and other supplies as needed.
  • Locking/unlocking of doors
  • Collecting trash and soiled linen.
  • Reporting maintenance work requests as needed.
  • Cleaning and restocking of janitor carts and closets.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and working condition of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Minimum Education Required:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Advanced Education Required:  (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD level and applicable field of study or related field) or equivalent combination of training and/or experience:

Skills (Interpersonal and job complexity):  Recognize the importance of good (positive) relations with the staff, public and all of the department's customers.  Use good judgment when applying standards of cleaning in patient or public areas.  Initiate proper procedures when encountering hazardous or blood and body fluid spills.  Follow proper procedures for responsibility when responding to all hospital codes.

Basic computer, data entry, typing, filing and organization skills required.

Abilities:   Position requires (3) to (6) months training to achieve proficiency with various procedures, techniques, and chemicals as they relate to floor finishing, and wall washing. Thirty (30) days to become familiar with corporate and departmental policy.

Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.

Environmental Conditions:  Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors.   Frequent changes in temperature may occur.  Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases.  Occasional outside duties.  Constant physical activity and contact with detergents and water.  Exposure to potentially dangerous situations, unpleasant odors, temperatures, noise, sights, infectious diseases and wastes.  Subject to slips and falls on wet floors and strains from lifting. Subject to chemical burns and other associated injuries from cleaning chemicals if proper safety precautions are not taken or observed.  May require access to locked Med Rooms based on assigned duties/unit.
