Complete cleaning procedures with appropriate disinfectant.

  • The cleaning of fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, windows, walls, dusting, and floors/vacuuming.
  • The use of equipment and chemicals
  • Respond to pages, communicate on Vocera, and using Epic as required.
  • Complete cleaning of patient rooms, exam rooms, med rooms, discharges, public areas, etc.
  • Cleaning and changing curtains and cubicles as needed.
  • Collection and disposal of general waste/hazardous waste.
  • Dispensing of paper products, soap and other supplies as needed.
  • Locking of doors.
  • Collecting trash and soiled linen.
  • Reporting maintenance work request as needed.
  • Cleaning and restocking janitor carts and closets.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and working condition of equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Advanced Education Required: (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD level and applicable field of study or related field) or equivalent combination of training and/or experience:

Advanced Education Preferred: (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD)

Minimum Experience Required: Work requires a minimum of 30 working days in order to become familiar with organization and department/unit policies and procedures.

Additional Experience Preferred:

Skills (Interpersonal and job complexity): Must possess the ability to read, write, and understand written and/or oral instructions. Basic computer skills.

Interpersonal: Demonstrates good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all patient care members, patients, physicians, patient families, and visitors. Inspires confidence from patients, co-workers, and visitors by consistently performing and communicating in a highly professional manner. Uses good personal hygiene habits and dresses to meet departmental dress code.

Complexities: Uses good judgment when applying standards of cleaning in patient areas. Initiates proper procedures when encountering hazardous or blood and body fluid spills. Follows proper procedures for responsibility when responding to all hospital codes.

Abilities: Must have physical dexterity to perform wet mopping, dust mopping, cleaning and making beds, polishing, etc. Lifts and carries cleaning supplies, equipment, trash, linen, etc. Ability to stand walks, stoop, crouch, bend, turn, reach, push, pull and carry equipment and furnishings. May work off-shifts and weekends.

Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.

Environmental Conditions: Works in a typical hospital environment, in a well-lighted, well heated, air conditioned building. Occasional outside duties. Constant physical activity and contact with water and detergent. Exposure to potentially dangerous situations, unpleasant odors, temperatures, noise, sights, infectious diseases, and waste. Subject to slips and falls on wet floors and strains from lifting. Subject to chemical burns and other associated injuries from cleaning chemicals if proper safety precautions are not taken. May require access to locked Med Rooms based on assigned duties/unit.
