Variable Shift Job Summary

Under direction of site management performs basic and advanced phlebotomy procedures including venipuncture and capillary collections; specialized procedures; EKGs.

• Utilizing standard venipuncture techniques, appropriate blood specimens are collected by adhering to correct collection and transport protocol including positive patient identification. • Performs specialized blood collection procedures such as capillary collections, blood cultures, paternity testing and glucose tolerance tests adhering to defined protocols. • Performs EKG testing according to defined protocol. • Performs non-blood specimen collections according to defined collection and transport protocols. • Processes patient specimens according to defined procedures. • Performs patient registration and test ordering according to defined procedures. • Follows all laboratory safety procedures to minimize the risk to self and others; reports gaps and/or recommendations. • May precept and orientate new associates or students in phlebotomy skills or tasks. • Perform other duties as assigned. • Committed to the continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service. • Abilities: Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.
• Environmental Conditions: Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors. Frequent changes in temperature may occur. Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases.
