Variable 12 Hour Shifts Job Summary
  • Accurately collect process and maintain medical record data in collaboration with the health care team, to facilitate the availability of ongoing patient information in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining unit stock, supplies and equipment to ensure economical utilization and availability of items for patient care and staff needs.
  • Establish and maintain open and positive communications in all aspects of job performance, including efficient response to telephone requests.
  • May receive cross-training for secretarial/registration duties, e.g. patient registration, data acquisition, patient or staff scheduling process.
  • Maintain a commitment to career growth and development by participation in mandatory annual in-services, Lakeland Regional Health System committees and educational programs to maintain competency.
  • May be required to work in similar departments when needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Committed to the continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care and excellent service. Adhere to the organization's published values.
  • For Critical Care Department- observe cardiac telemetry monitors while interpreting rhythms and arrhythmias with minimal supervision. Reports all changes in heat rate/rhythm to appropriate nursing staff.

License/Registration/Certification Required: BLS certification. For Critical Care Department- obtain Monitor Technician certification within one year through the successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia class.

License/Registration/Certification Preferred:

Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Advanced Education Required: (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD level and applicable field of study or related field) or equivalent combination of training and/or experience:

Advanced Education Preferred: (Associate/Bachelor/Master/PhD)

Minimum Experience Required:

Additional Experience Preferred: Experience as Unit Clerk preferred.

Skills (Interpersonal and job complexity): Must be able to demonstrate customer focused interpersonal skills in order to interact in an effective manner with patients and families. Must be able to collaborate with unit teams and various levels of hospital personnel as part of a team.

Basic computer, data entry, typing, filing and organization skills required.

Abilities: Two (2) to three (3) week orientation.

Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, extended shifts and/or extra shifts, various locations, sometimes on short notice.

Environmental Conditions: Potential exposure to fumes, dust, gases, and odors. Frequent changes in temperature may occur. Possibility of exposure to communicable diseases. May require access to locked Med Rooms based on assigned duties/unit.
