As a member of the SpendingPulse team, you will bring your development skills to design, build, deploy, and scale the SpendingPulse application. SpendingPulse provides economic insights to our customers across geographies and sectors, including financial institutions, merchants, and governments. We analyze datasets with billions of transactions using Big Data technologies including Spark, Hive, and Impala, to create a scalable high-performance platform. We are looking for an innovative software engineer who can contribute to designing and building data pipelines, and thrive in a fast-paced, agile team. This individual will be part of a cross-functional team and collaborate closely with our Product Management, User Interface, and Data Warehouse teams, including team members in both Prague and the United States.

Every team member contributes to designing, building, and testing new features. The range of work you encounter varies from building data pipelines from our massive transaction dataset to designing visualizations that drive data-driven decisions.
The SpendingPulse team is currently scaling the product globally, designing and building the infrastructure that will facilitate quality control and distribution of SpendingPulse results to consumers. As the product continues to expand globally, the team will add support for additional analytics, continue to automate manual processes, increase the robustness of the platform, and publish data on a more timely cadence.
The SpendingPulse team is part of Mastercard's Data & Services organization. The Data & Services team is a key differentiator for Mastercard, providing the cutting-edge services that are used by some of the world's largest organizations to make multi-million dollar decisions and grow their businesses. Focused on thinking big and scaling fast around the globe, Data & Services is responsible for end-to-end solutions for a diverse global customer base. Centered on data-driven technologies and innovation, these services include payments-focused consulting, loyalty and marketing programs, business Test & Learn experimentation, and risk management services.
As a Software Engineer II on the Data & Services Technology team, you'll hold a valued role within a rapidly growing and successful firm, working closely with experienced and driven senior engineers to solve problems as a team. Innovative product opportunities, modern business questions, and intricate datasets present uniquely challenging problems that we are eager tackle. Mastercard's Data & Services next generation platform blends industry-leading analytics, advanced software architecture, and the latest web technologies to face these problems. Our software is required to effectively decipher analytically complex insights from these problems, on which businesses base multi-million dollar business decisions.
Position Responsibilities:
At Mastercard D&S, you will build revolutionary products that advance how businesses all over the world seize the most value from their data. As a Software Engineer II, you will:
Build scalable and maintainable data pipelines that allow us to expand SpendingPulse with new features and deliver insights from economic trends
Drive performance, reliability, and readability in our code base, allowing us to troubleshoot quickly and publish data consistently.
Test your code and review code from other team members.
Continuously innovate and determine new approaches, tools, techniques, and technologies to solve business problems.
Partner with roles across the organization including consultants, engineering, and sales to determine the highest priority problems to solve.
Collaborate across teams with exceptional peers who are passionate about what they do.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
2+ years of software development experience in an agile production environment
Proficiency with SQL and Python (or other object-oriented languages). Experience with big data technologies is a bonus.
Clear communicator. Strong written and verbal English skills.
Motivation, creativity, self-direction, and desire to thrive on small project teams.
Ability to collaborate within the team across roles. Communicate with teammates who have varying levels of technical understanding.
Strong technologist eager to learn new tools and frameworks.
Passion for analytical / quantitative problem solving.
Eager to experiment with new team processes and innovate on development approaches.
Excellent academic record with a degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
