POSITION PURPOSE

Under the general direction of the rehabilitation manager, provides physical therapy services to patients following the plan of care established by the physical therapist.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  1. Patient Care: Under the direct supervision of a physical, occupational or speech therapist, provides physical therapy services, notifies the therapist of any changes in patient's status on each visit and ensuring quality of care.
    1. Implements the plan of care as established by the therapist.
    2. Provides assistance to professional staff by preparing patient for treatment and carrying out treatment regimes such as: hydrotherapy, heat/cold applications, paraffin, exercise and gait under direct supervision of professional staff.
    3. Maintains frequency of visits as established on physician's orders.
    4. Modifies interventions in accordance with patient changes, within the scope of the plan of care and with communication with the therapist.
    5. Collaborates with therapist and patient in ordering equipment necessary for patient safety and optimum function.
    6. Utilizes safe patient handling techniques.
  2. Support: Collaborates and coordinates patient care with other clinical team members.
    1. Provides feedback to the therapist on the progression of the plan of care according to department policy.
    2. Updates other team members of changes in patient status that will impact on the plan of care.
    3. Identifies potential need for and makes recommendations to therapists for referrals to other disciplines.
    4. Transports patients to and from the department.
    5. Provides assistance to professional staff by preparing patient for treatment and carrying out treatment regimes such as: hydrotherapy, heat/cold applications, paraffin, exercise and gait under direct supervision of professional staff.
  3. Reporting: Maintains appropriate documentation on each patient.
    1. Asks appropriate questions of patient/caregiver and collects data necessary to monitor patient's status.
    2. Reports changes in patient's status and updates on progression of plan of care to the supervising physical therapist or rehabilitation manager.
    3. Assists therapists with scheduling patients.
    4. Enters charges into computer
    5. Accurately prepares and faxes patient schedules to units.
    6. Prepares requisition forms and delivers to appropriate department.
    7. Orders routine supplies.
  4. Environmental: Maintains a clean, safe, prepared work environment.
    1. Maintains department in clean, neat, and orderly fashion.
    2. Assures adequate linen levels.
    3. Set up and cleaning of equipment and treatment tables.
  5. Development: Participates with supervisors in identifying learning needs.
    1. When learning needs are identified, participates in training and development activities.
    2. Attends hospital sponsored training programs as required by the department
    3. Completes all mandatory requirements, certifications, and licensure within allotted timeframe for completion (CPR, PPD, Competencies, Age Specifics, etc.)
  6. Organizational knowledge: Works effectively within and between departments.
    1. Participates in departmental projects
    2. Participates in interdepartmental activities when asked.
    3. Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff, supervisors, and managers both inside and outside the unit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • College coursework is preferred

    Certification:
  • CPR Certification

    Required Knowledge:
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal and external customers.
  • Basic Computer skills to perform Data entry
  • Computerized clinical information systems: Clinicians View, Chart View.
  • HIPAA policies on Confidentiality

    Experience Required:
  • 1 year of experience preferred
