
Description
This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by providing competent and professional telemetry monitoring and performing other department-specific responsibilities as required by the department. The monitor technician works with the unit teams to identify, monitor and communicate telemetry rhythms and changes to prevent adverse outcomes. Job Duties
- The telemetry technician may have an expanded role to include Patient Care Technician and/or Unit Secretary
- Professionally collaborates with Licensed Nurses and Physicians regarding rhythm interpretations and/or questions
- Promptly communicates cardiac arrhythmias, rhythm changes or other significant events to the primary Licensed Nurse
- Demonstrates ability to observe, interpret and document cardiac rhythms
- Measures and provides interpretation all of telemetry patients every 4 hours or as changes occur
- Works closely with the Shift Supervisor on each unit
- Accurately completes inventory of telemetry packs every shift
- Successful completion of 144 hours cardiac rhythm interpretation training
- Successful completion of cardiac rhythm interpretation competency exam upon hire and annually
- Excellent, effective and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to function independently and as a collaborative member of the healthcare team
- Efficient time management and organizational skills
- Manages stress appropriately to include multitasking, concentration to detail and handling of sentinel events
- Ability to operate efficiently within Philips and Epic systems.
- Previous Telemetry Technician experience preferred
- Previous LPN, Patient Care Technician or EMT-1 experience preferred
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Medical Terminology Class preferred
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
- Sedentary: Exert up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a minute amount frequently
