High school graduate or equivalent required.
Must be able to pass a Medical Terminology test, data entry test and typing test with requirement of 40 WPM. Requires computer knowledge along with accurate spelling and data entry skills. Prior experience in a hospital or Physician's office strongly preferred. Prior experience with insurance companies preferred. Must be flexible and willing to assist on other shifts to meet the needs of the department. Areas of flexibility will include ED Registration and in-house admissions. Must be able to perform duties accurately in a fast paced, high stress area, and perform at productivity standards of 90% or higher. Good communication skills a must. Must show empathy and compassion when dealing with the public, physicians and coworkers.
Must be willing to primarily remain on feet, with ability to push a computer on wheels.
NATURE OF WORK:
Performs various clerical functions pertaining to area of assignment. Obtains accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and/or family members. Verifies insurance eligibility. Collects copays from patients. Use of a computer on wheels to enter information into the medical center information system. Clerical functions of registration performed face to face at patient's bedside within ED. Use of a copier/scanner/fax machine as required. Works closely with Emergency Room clinical staff and Physicians. Other duties as assigned.
