Are you an experienced nurse, ready to be involved in the ongoing pursuit of quality and safety? This is a perfect position for the nurse with strong experience but wants a little more from their career. Nurses who are starting or have already completed their master's degree programs, and want to be involved in a unique role that allows them to still have involvement with patient care situations, to be an educator, a leader, and to assist nurses throughout the hospital as well as patients! This quality coordinator will review safety occurrences, initiate sentinel event, potentially compensable, and reportable event processes. The quality coordinator will initiate root cause analysis investigations. Process improvement including PDCA models incorporating Lean Six tools will facilitate teamwork to close gaps whether safety issues or quality performance gaps. The ideal candidate is oriented to the nursing world as an advocate and has a strong culture of safety. The incumbent of this position advocates to solve problems while ensuring that we keep is simple, involve front-line staff in problem-solving, dedicate our work to “getting it right” for staff and patients. The incumbent of this position will be required to be self-driven, able to stay on task and able to prioritize tasks throughout the day. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn quickly, federal, state, and hospital rules, regulations, and policies will be a significant portion of the knowledge required to perform best in this position. The best applicant will have strong computer skills, able to navigate outlook with ease as well as having the ability to write professional communications, memorandums, and reports. Strong use of excel and access to a number of databases will be required. Applicants best qualified will understand the power of data and have the ability to make numbers speak to the heart of the nurse and their work in the day-to-day scenario. 

In this role, the Quality Coordinator will:

  • Measures, analyzes, generates and presents reports on healthcare processes and patient outcomes to identify and prioritize areas for improvement.
  • Coordinates performance improvement activities focused on specific patient service lines or nursing/medical and/or organizational quality initiatives through the use of specific benchmarks and evidence-based practices. Participates in the evaluation of the impact of improvement activities.
  • Facilitates sentinel event investigations and root cause analysis activities to reduce risk and increase patient safety. Facilitates the peer review process as indicated.
  • Coordinates the review of, and collaborates with Risk Management on, correspondence related to quality of care issues from outside the organization.
  • Participates in efforts to establish and maintain organizational readiness to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Educates staff and physicians regarding performance improvement processes/initiatives and patient safety.


  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or related healthcare degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years of clinical experience in a hospital setting required.
  • Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit, which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing or related healthcare field.
  • Preferred Experience: Quality Management, regulatory compliance, or TQM/CQI.
