POSITION DESCRIPTION
Natividad is currently seeking permanent, full-time and temporary Environmental Services Aide positions in the Environmental Services Department.  Under supervision, these positions are responsible to clean, maintain and keep assigned areas of Natividad in sanitary condition and to perform related work as required. Examples of Duties SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

  • Collects waste from assigned areas of Hospital including medical bio-hazardous materials, pathology materials and "sharps" in accordance with Hospital Infection Control policies 
  • Collects and transports contaminated and dirty laundry; delivers laundry to vendor collection site 
  • Cleans and disinfects patient rooms, restrooms, beds and other furniture; moves beds during patient transfers 
  • Washes, dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork and shelves; empties and cleans waste receptacles; cleans walls, fountains, and windows; dusts all intake and exhaust vents, light fixtures and other furnishings; picks up and stocks supplies 
  • Maintains security of building as appropriate, locks doors and turns off lights; keeps utility storage area and custodial equipment clean and in good order; makes reports on areas in need of repair and of safety hazards; some positions may raise and/or lower the flag
  • Keeps kitchen and restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition; sweeps, scrubs, and waxes floors; cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls; cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains; sanitizes garbage cans; dusts ledges and woodwork; replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap; note condition of restroom and reports to supervisors broken window, water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring maintenance 
  • Follows guidelines for effective hand hygiene, in order to prevent transmission of bacteria, germs and infections
Examples of Experience/Education/Training MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Training: Six months experience in janitorial or light building maintenance; or any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities listed below.
Working Knowledge of: Methods, supplies, and equipment used in sanitizing, cleaning and maintaining hospital buildings; typical biohazards in a hospital setting.
Skill and Ability to: Apply approved methods of cleaning to everyday cleaning assignments; plan and complete assigned duties on a regular schedule; follow oral and written directions; observe safe work practices and procedures; read and understand signs, labels and work schedules written in English; understand and carry out oral and written directions; and maintain good working relationships with others. Additional Information CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment. 
  • Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check. 
  • Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven. 
  • Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work. 
  • Incumbents may be required to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays; and work with potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
