The Director of Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance will lead the O'Reilly safety, regulatory, and environmental compliance program. Key areas of responsibility will include prevention/reduction of vehicle accidents, occupational injuries, and general public safety. The Director of Safety, Environmental and Regulatory Compliance will oversee the administration of drug testing programs and assure compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.)
Essential Job Functions
- Lead the safety, environmental and regulatory compliance team with the goal of minimizing corporate risk costs from fleet accidents, customer injuries, team member injuries, property losses, regulatory actions, etc. Manage the team of field safety managers to ensure the proper areas of focus and ROI maximization.
- Work cross-functionally with multiple teams and departments with regards to fleet safety. This includes investigating driver complaints, point system, deductible payment, MVR, incentives, etc. Ensure best practices are being followed for the driving eligibility program, monitor all MVR and driving eligibility costs, and negotiate improved terms where possible. Make recommendations and decisions for drivers not meeting written guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT requirements, and establish formal internal standards and measurements, including audit processes, training, eligibility, etc.
- Oversee corporate substance abuse testing policies and administration, including written policy, subject TMs, random, reasonable cause, pre-employment, etc. Continually assess more efficient testing advancements and negotiate improved terms and pricing. Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws (FCRA, etc.).
- Ensure corporate compliance with all regulatory requirements, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, etc.
- Analysis of loss data to identify opportunities to reduce accidents and injuries. Communicate loss trends regularly to appropriate field and executive teams.
- Travel required, approximately 10-20%.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven record of successful team leadership.
- Strong presentation skills, formal training experience, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to pro-actively develop programs with limited supervision, while being cognizant of importance of keeping others informed of activity, balancing business demands with good safety practices.
- Willingness to travel domestically with potential for international travel, approximately 10-20%.
- Prior experience in the design and management of a corporate safety program with a similar organization preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT requirements, Certified Safety Specialist designation and HR experience desired.
