McAllen is at the heart of this transition and is similar to San Antonio in 1990s. There is plenty to keep you busy from dining at hundreds of restaurants and shopping for south of the border treasures to a variety of live music, theatre and dance performances. University of Texas Rio Grande Valley opened their Medical school last year. Except for a theme park and major sports team, the McAllen-Edinburg area offers all the amenities of a large city only an hour's drive from the beach!
