The nurse practitioner functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the medical/surgical staff. Their advance practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems. Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical intervention, health promotion and pain management. Document patient teaching. Refers and communicates pertinent abnormalities to medical director/surgical specialist. Performs clinical procedures (in addition to RN functions). The Nurse Practitioner serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient, disease management and pain management. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a clinical resource to the nursing staff. Facilitate practices that are in compliance with Core Measures and The Joint Commission requirements. The Nurse Practitioner will assist the Medical Center in enhancing our patients experience with pain management through coordinating and providing house-wide education on pain management and will lead house-wide Performance Improvement evaluation activities through implementation of evidence-based practice. The Nurse Practitioner will participate on the research committee and publish. The Nurse Practitioner will assist with The Joint Commission preparedness and other tasks to improve patient satisfaction and the quality of care delivered. The Nurse Practitioner will be credentialed through the SBMC Medical Staff and with third party payers for fee for service reimbursement.


  • Masters prepared in Nursing from an accredited program


  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state or New Jersey.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of New Jersey.
  • ACLS Certification
  • BLS Certification
  • Must be certified from an approved facility or completion of requirements within 90 days of hire for:
  • Intravenous therapy.
  • Successful completion of all orientation programs.
  • Meets requirements as defined by applicable Department Specific Equipment Competency Checklist.
  • Excellent communication skills, with organizational ability, and transformational leadership skills.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in area standards.
  • Knowledge and comfort with computers and various software packages desirable.
  • Recommend active membership in pertinent local, state and national organizations.
