JOB DESCRIPTION:


SAIC is recruiting a Solutions Architect, Senior Principle to support our FDA program as the infrastructure team lead.  This position supports the CFSAN scientific infrastructure and innovation team, driving technological architecture guidance, with respect to HPC, cloud, network, backup, storage and virtualization optimization.   


The preferred candidate will possess strong analysis skills with a broad-based background and demonstrated depth of understanding in all infrastructure technologies to include expert level, hands on, systems design, stand-up and administration of current and future infrastructure support environments.  The candidate must be able conduct briefings, participate in technical cross-functional meetings; demonstrate a clear capability to interface with customers, SMEs and vendors.  The candidate must possess the technical leadership skills to identify technical tasks and gaps based on the contract scope of work and assist in assigning tasks to other infrastructure engineers to meet the contract objectives.


This position will require expert level, Linux/UNIX knowledge with and additional emphasis on integration with various scientific platforms.  Also, expertise in setup, configuration and administration of Windows and OS X Scientific Workstations and integrating them with the FDA CFSAN scientific data center network is required.

 

Skills and Experience:

Plan, recommend and assist with implementing strategies around entire HPC, server, storage, database, networking and virtualization infrastructure

Working knowledge of cloud architecture, preferably Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Collaborate with all teams to help guide strategic hardware choices and configuration in association with the rest of the environment

Create proposals, documentation and associated drawings in support of the working environment and future planning

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, able to convey complex ideas and theories to technical and non-technical alike

Full working knowledge of infrastructure technologies, to include storage, backup, networking, virtualization (VMWare / Citrix), Unix / Linux, Windows)

Work closely with Program and Technical management to ensure proper focus is given to scope and timelines

Proactive communication to manage scope and schedule for multiple priorities

Participate and adhere to change management processes

Customer Service Focus and expert customer interface skills

Must possess a solid track record for superb customer satisfaction and communication on infrastructure support matters

Expert level system administration experience of Univa Grid Engine and SLURM

Computing systems, hands on queue management, and HPC system OS level upgrades required

Must be able to earn and maintain Public Trust Clearance.

Participates in development of solutions to problems of unusually complex which require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation. Challenges are often unique and solutions may serve precedent for future decisions.

 

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 
Must have a Bachelors and 13 + Years of experience; a Masters and 11+ years of experience; PhD or JD and 8+ years of experience
Must have prior experience Leading a team or project
Must have at least 5+ years of infrastructure experience 
Must be able to work in a fast paced environment 
Must have the ability to jump in and do hands on technical work as well as lead projects and initiatives 
Must have 5+ years of Linux/Unix experience 
Prior HPC experience is a plus
