The duties and responsibilities of the Interventional Radiology Technologist include but are not limited to:
Maintains competency and proficiency with all Interventional Radiology equipment in order to obtain quality images.
Complies with radiation safety guidelines for patient and self. Utilizes all personal protective equipment. Operates Interventional Radiology equipment safely.
Demonstrates the ability to perform all necessary computer operations (i.e.: Meditech, RIS, PACS) to ensure proper procedural documentation and charges.
Renders patient care in a professional and courteous manner. Explain all procedures to the patient. Performs physical assessment by checking IV's, catheters, tubing, etc. Communicates and coordinates all Interventional Radiology procedures with the appropriate caregivers.
Prepare equipment, monitor inventory and maintain cleanliness of procedure room and work area.
Maintains a working knowledge with respect to CPT coding and terminology.
Utilizes independent judgment and competence with regard to assisting the radiologist in administering medications, contrast agents and all types of patient care. Maintains sterile technique during Interventional Radiology procedures. Proficient with IV injections.
Maintains efficiency in Patient Care and workflow through the department.
Reviews each exam for technical accuracy (i.e. technical quality, correct anatomical positioning, annotation, etc.).
Completes verification process in PACs in a timely manner.
Demonstrates willingness to assist in additional duties.
Completes and maintains educational requirements.
Maintains strict confidentiality regarding employees and patient information according to HIPAA Policy and Procedure.

REQUIRED: Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology. Responsible for continuing education credits as mandated by the ARRT for licensure.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION (Required or Preferred)
American Registry of Radiologic Technology (required)ARRT Certification – Cardiovascular/Interventional (preferred) American Society of Radiologic Technology (preferred) Virginia Society of Radiologic Technology (preferred) Current BLS CPR certification (required)
