Job Description

Manager, Valuations Control

Location: Union, NJ; Jersey City or 4 Times Square, NYC | Partially Remote

Overview:

The SS&C Valuations Team is a global utility that is responsible for valuation of quoted securities and price verification. The team supports HFS accounting departments in US, Ireland and India, and handles pricing deliverables, challenges and inquiries. The candidate will be working within this global team to ensure pricing process is carried out as per agreed hierarchy and service level agreement. These valuations are used for collateral margin calculations, providing daily PNL and in the fund's NAV process. Valuation control function involves independent verification of the final source prices which are determined in accordance with the funds valuation policy and in compliance with SS&C's internal pricing procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily, weekly and monthly valuation control function for clients portfolio using third-party valuation vendors such as Super Derivatives, (ICE), Bloomberg, Reuters, MarkIt etc. as well as SS&C's proprietary valuation platform.
  • Process independent valuation of OTC Derivatives such as Credit Default Swaps, Interest Rate Swaps, Cap/Floors, Swaptions, Total return Swaps, FX Options, Variance Swaps, Commodity Swaps, amongst other instruments using third party valuation vendor
  • Carry out price verification checks such as day-on-day variance review, stale price review and price challenge justification.
  • Investigate and resolve valuation issues between vendor, Investment Manager/Counterparty, and in-house derivative prices
  • Ensure all pricing tasks are executed in compliance with the Portfolio Valuation Policy and reviewed in accordance with SOC1 and internal controls.
  • Conduct Price Verification reviews to ensure valuation provided for non-quoted securities meets pricing procedures.
  • Perform fair value pricing review to ensure correct price is reflected in the account system.
  • Conduct Price Materiality Analysis to ensure client/broker prices are within a reasonable tolerance when compared against independent vendor.
  • Handle pricing inquiries and questions from internal team as well as client.
  • Prepare various reports as required for reporting for internal/external deliverables.
  • Work with and train team members across the team on new processes and provide support to teams across different location. Advise staff and partners with cross-functional teams to meet project schedules and to develop solutions to issues.
  • Exercise wide-latitude to make decisions within established company policies to meet business objectives.
  • Accountable for department results. Establishes procedures and recommends changes to policies.

Position Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas: investment banking, private equity, hedge funds, valuation, financial statement analysis, quantitative analysis, statistical sampling and econometrics, fixed income, and/or capital markets
  • 2+ years of experience in valuations or Product Control or Independent Price verification or related field.
  • High level of computer literacy and familiarity with standard financial products such as equities, options, futures, bonds, swaps, and asset backed securities.
  • Bachelors degree in Finance / Economics or related discipline, Higher level qualification, preferably in Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Engineering, or Finance will be a plus.
  • High degree of analytical agility
  • First rate communication / presentation skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel Skill
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines as part of a team
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to build partnerships with operational associates
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment and/or independently
  • Experience with Bloomberg, MarkIt, Super Derivatives, Reuters and other data vendors will be a plus.
