Partnering with a leading provider of an Augmented Intelligence (AI) platform, we are building an integrated system that delivers advanced supply chain order forecasts while reducing waste consumption. We are looking for someone with experience in delivering, enhancing, and sustaining an AI/ML-powered applications and platforms designed to solve complex problems and to optimize decision-making by mimicking human intelligence that drives our retail store automated ordering and inventory management digital transformations. The person in this role is accountable for the development, installation, configuration, monitoring, analysis, maintenance, and technical support of this platform.
Because our Replenishment Planning Engineering Manager takes accountability for our retail store automated ordering solutions, this job requires you to be intellectually curious, technically inclined, with strong problem-solving skills to be successful. In addition to these traits, extensive knowledge of software engineering and relevant technologies; understanding of architectural styles and design patterns; knowledge of various coding methods and computer languages; fluency with data structures and algorithms; and expertise in software engineering development lifecycle processes.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Establishes cross-functional, collaborative partnerships between Starbucks and o9 Solutions technology teams
  • Collaborates on technical solutions requiring cross-functional teamwork between Starbucks Technology and Data Science Analytics & Insights (A&I) teams supporting end to end AI/ML algorithm deployment
  • Uses latest advancements in AI/ML to solve business problems
  • Manages the automated ordering application and platform engineering teams both internally within Starbucks and externally with our o9 Solutions software product vendor, and performs activities to resolve application development and platform support related issues timely and accurately
  • Abilities to effectively manage and partner with technology vendors to deliver against business objectives in the role of a technical account manager
  • Participates in QBR sessions to measure and monitor service levels and progress against operational and strategic plans
  • Assists in managing change control processes across the ecosystems, as well as build and release processes within Starbucks Technology including Analytics & Insights, and o9 Solutions
  • Develops new features, user interactions, application components through effective front-end architecture and framework
  • Manages technical design and development of backend architecture, RESTful services and APIs, optimizations to ensure functionality and performance meets the highest quality
  • Manages an Azure cloud-based platform in support of SaaS-hosted applications
  • Governs and audits code control across various platforms and multiple channels
  • Manages engineering best practices for full stack development
  • Improves service levels and system quality by identifying issues and common patterns, and develops standard operating procedures
  • Ensures that non-functional requirements such as security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability and reliability are being considered during technical design solutions
  • Identifies and explores opportunities to leverage new technologies to enhance the platform
  • Conducts research and makes recommendations on standards, products, and services in support of Starbucks Technology
  • Ensures application and infrastructure architectural solutions are stable, secure, and compliant with Company standards and practices
  • Implements all technologies in accordance with Information Security's guiding principles for highly sensitive data
  • Provides high-availability operational support and automate solutions across the environment
  • Implements deep telemetry capabilities to provide ongoing success and performance metrics
  • Is knowledgeable in Operational IT Management to include Change Management, Release Management, Incident Management, and Problem Management
  • Implements service monitoring across all platforms to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity of critical systems
  • Upholds company policies, and legal/regulatory requirements, such as (but not limited to) PCI
  • Implements and maintains system configurations and baselines to support secure application development software control best practices and standards
  • Provides support to team members in order to achieve partners, business, and customer results

Job Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Education (minimum education level, degree or certification necessary):
  • 8-10 years of professional industry experience in software development and system engineering
  • 5 years of managing systems or application development initiatives of all sizes and complexities
  • 5 years of experience with implementing and sustaining retail systems and supply chain planning applications (Demand Planning, Supply Planning, Distribution Planning, S&OP, and/or Replenishment Planning)
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience working with SaaS applications hosted on at least one of the cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) 
  • 3-5 years working with AI/ML algorithm deployment
  • 3-5 years of leading or managing high performing technology teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills (minimum skills required):
  • 10+ years of experience in application development and systems engineering
  • 5+ years of experience leading high performing technology teams
  • 5+ years of experience with network administration and database administration
  • 5+ years utilizing logging, monitoring, and alerting solutions, and/or similar solutions as a system administrator
  • 5+ years of experience in one of the following languages such as Java, Javascripts, C#, C++, Perl, Go, or Python/R, SQL
  • 3+ years of database engineering, administration, and support including various open source databases
  • Highly skilled in backend technologies such as Apache, .NET, C#/Java and REST APIs
  • Experience in API design and development
  • Strong knowledge of OOPs concepts, data structures, system designs and algorithms, multithreading, optimization, debugging and good problem-solving abilities
  • Experience in applied analytical methods in the field of supply chain planning such as replenishment planning, demand planning, supply planning, S&OP, market intelligence, optimal assortments, pricing, inventory management
  • Proficiency with code versioning control systems
  • Experience in the design, implementation and delivery of sophisticated build/test/release infrastructure
  • Experience with highly virtualized environments and cloud technologies
  • Understanding of relevant legal and regulatory requirements such as SOX, PCI, HIPAA, Data Protection, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing high capacity, redundant, and mission critical environments
  • Experience with Network or Application Firewalls and/or IDS/IPS
  • Experience supporting LDAP services in an enterprise environment
  • Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and prioritization skills
