The Vermont Attorney General's Office, Agency of Human Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for a full-time Assistant Attorney General (AAG) position to represent the DCF-Family Services Division with a focus on matters and issues related to youth justice.
The duties of the position include representation of DCF-FSD in administrative due process hearings at Woodside Juvenile Rehabilitation Center in Colchester; representation of DCF-FSD in Vermont Superior Court in other matters related to individual youth adjudicated delinquent; advising DCF-FSD in regard to youthful offender matters; and consultation with DCF-FSD in regard to other youth justice issues as necessary. The position may also include coverage of overflow work assigned to the AGO's DCF-FSD Unit regarding child protection matters.
The position will be based in the State Office Complex in Waterbury and will require travel to Woodside, Superior Courts, and DCF-FSD districts throughout the state. At least 3 years of experience in administrative, juvenile, family, civil and/or criminal matters is strongly preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with litigation experience, especially if in Vermont courts. Candidate must be willing to travel and work independently but within the structure of a government legal team. Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
This assistant attorney general position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the Attorney Pay Plan.
