I. Job Summary
The Yard Associate interacts with the customer by greeting and assisting them in the yard area of our operation and, once load is complete, thanking them for their business. This is a highly-visible position and is most important the individual is personable, friendly, and courteous at all times. Building material knowledge is preferred but not required. Heavy loading, stacking, cleaning, and assisting with delivery of lumber and building materials is performed daily.
A. Education: Basic education which includes ability to competently read and write.
B. Training and Experience: No training or experience is required but must have writing and reading skills.
C. Job Knowledge: Building material knowledge is preferred.
D. Physical Demands: Work requires much physical effort; involves little sitting, standing, walking, and some heavy lifting on a regular basis. Works in a non-air-conditioned environment. (Important: This job is classified in the physical demands section of the job description [Form IV-31] as constant heavy work and occasional extra heavy work. This form must be reviewed with and signed by the applicant.)
III. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
A. Must be familiar and in compliance with Stine Policies and Procedures.
B. Handle heavy and bulky building materials and safely load customers' vehicles.
C. Assist with deliveries by riding with drivers to unload and carry building materials to job sites.
D. Help receiving unload any trucks that have to be hand-unloaded (ex.: insulation trucks, window trucks, etc.)
E. Stack lumber in bins, straighten all lumber, etc.
F. Pick up steel banding, trash, and 2x4's; sweep, cut grass, etc.
G. Help stock inside store with merchandise received from out back.
H. Maintain area assigned by yard manager.
I. Operate forklift (must be over 18 years old).

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions are components of Worker Characteristics. Physical Demands analysis is a systematic way of describing the physical activities that a job requires. Constant – HEAVY WORK
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work, Also, may include the following physical demands; climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near acuity and depth perception, accommodation, color vision and field of vision. Environmental condition factors may include wet and/or humid, noise intensity level of loud, atmospheric condition, exposure to weather, proximity to moving mechanical parts and working in high, exposed places and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Occasional – VERY HEAVY WORK
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Heavy Work. Also, may include the following physical demands; climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, near acuity and depth perception, accommodation, color vision and field of vision.
