We are currently seeking a Full-time Associate Environmental Planner for our Minneapolis, Minnesota or Appleton Wisconsin office to support our growing energy practice. Our energy practice includes fossil fuel, onshore and offshore wind, solar and electric power generation, transmission lines and substations, natural gas transmission pipelines (FERC and non-FERC regulated), compressor stations, and other energy related facilities.
Tetra Tech's energy practice includes routing, siting, and permitting of renewable and fossil fuel electric power generation, electric transmission lines and substations, natural gas pipelines, compressor stations, and other related facilities.
Assisting senior staff with preparing and producing permit documents and permit applications for federal, state, local agencies and jurisdictions
Supporting the development of environmental studies and resource analysis associated with the National Environmental policy Act (NEPA) and Public Service Commission/Public Utility Commission applications
Working knowledge of geographic information system (GIS); environmental impact analysis related to energy and land management projects; agency consultation for regulatory compliance/ permitting; biological resources mitigation, design and monitoring; and construction monitoring; and wetland and waterway delineation and permitting, is desirable
Researching and interpreting federal, state, and local regulations on a project-specific basis to assess project permitting feasibility and requirements; and interface with regulatory agencies
Organizational support for project team and public meetings, including developing schedules, sending notifications, drafting agendas, and taking and distributing notes
Research and documentation for planning initiatives and development of project permitting
Attendance at and logistical coordination for meetings, including preparation of presentation materials
Explain complex technical concepts in simple terms for several audiences
Work products this candidate will support the development include, but not limited, to the following:
State utility applications
Federal NEPA documents
Land use permit applications
Critical Issues Analysis reports
Environmental analysis documentation
Siting and routing studies
Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as planning, environmental studies, or closely related discipline
2-4 years of demonstrated work experience performing similar tasks
Competency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required and experience with Adobe Creative Cloud also desired
Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced consulting environment with the capability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Ability to utilize critical thinking; excellent writing skills; flexible approach to problem solving; excellent interpersonal communication skills, planning and organizational skills, and attention to detail
Willingness and ability to travel is also required
Valid Driver's License is required
The Associate Environmental Planner will support Project Managers with energy facility siting, permitting, task coordination, public outreach, as well as budget and project tracking
The Associate Environmental Planner should have demonstrated writing abilities, organizational skills, competency with basic business computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office)
Possess the ability to act independently with task management roles
Have a strong attention to detail, and a proven commitment to quality management, continuous improvement and client satisfaction
The ability to handle multiple tasks, coordinate effectively with others, and work independently within a team are important characteristics for this position
