Tetra Tech is seeing a GIS Database and Applications Specialist (Mid Level) to work in either their Newark, DE, Wheeling, WV, or Pittsburgh, PA office.
The position involves working directly with clients to establish and document requirements and develop applications using various tools and/or customized solutions. You will also modify existing systems based on changing technologies and client needs. The position will require occasional travel to support GIS, data management, and web-based mapping application development for field work. Work will support the areas of emergency response, removal assessment, and removal action. Members of the emergency response team are responsible for maintaining on-call readiness to handle emergency responses and provide remedial and restoration guidance/solutions to clients in the Mid-Atlantic United States. Responsibilities may also include training presentations; preparation of standard operating procedures, mentoring of staff and other consulting activities.
The ideal candidate will have 5 to 10 years of relevant GIS experience to provide technical support on a variety of scientific and engineering projects and programs. The position requires strong GIS and web-based mapping application development skills as well as strong working knowledge of SQL Server and other relational database systems. It requires familiarity with ESRI's field tools (Collector for ArcGIS) to set up GPS and tablet-based field data acquisition.
The applicant must have extensive experience with ESRI ArcMap and ArcGIS Server 10.1 or higher, as well as strong geo-database design and management skills. The applicant must also have experience in developing web-based mapping applications in ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS. The applicant should have strong database skills (e.g. Microsoft Access and SQL Server), a good working knowledge of SQL, and experience using ESRI's ArcGIS On-line web-based GIS environment. The applicant should be familiar with ESRI's field tools (Collector) and setting up multiple field teams for GPS-based data collection and upload.
It is desirable that the applicant also have software development experience (e.g. C++, C#, asp.net, etc.), as well as data analysis/task automation experience (e.g. Python, ArcPy, R, VBA, etc.). Experience working with environmental data and sampling/monitoring equipment is a plus. Also, strong technical writing skills. You must be highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment. Excellent communication, client interaction, and organizational skills, as well as proficiency with database design, database administration and GIS and MS Office applications are required. Must be able to mentor and teach others.
Skills Required: Analytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative data; technical and non-technical writing; Information and data analysis; Multi-tasking and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Must be able to drive a motor vehicle and pass a motor vehicle records check.
A.S.degree in Computer Sciences or GIS Technological Studies (with 7 years experience) or B.S./M.S. in Computer Science or GIS Technological Studies (with 5 years experience) required. The position requires the ability to conduct field work. Ability to carry field equipment (30 to 40 pounds) and don personal protective gear as needed. Work in outdoor areas during all seasons and weather. The work environment will consist mostly of in-office work; however, the position will require occasional work on environmental cleanup sites.
