Our Vancouver office is a multidisciplinary team of designers, technologists, and engineers. We specialize in small to mid-sized projects for clients across Canada. The types of clients we work for include:

  • Heavy Industrial Facilities
  • Pipelines and Refineries
  • Mineral Processing
  • Municipal & Utilities
  • Water treatment 

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY:

Completing technical activities including combinations of the following:

  • Leader a team in the delivery of Instrument and Controls related Construction Work Packages
  • Communicate with clients for project coordination and business development
  • Review work by team members in adherence to our Quality Assurance program
  • Act as Responsible Member for engineering design
  • Participate in HAZOPS and client review meetings
  • Develop control strategies, P&IDs, control system specifications, termination diagrams, commissioning plans
  • Work independently on Instrumentation & Controls design as an integrated member of an interdisciplinary design team
  • Design, specificy and integrate complete automation systems including PLC, HMI, DCS, and communication networks 
  • Participate in control panel design and generation of bill of materials, cabling, PLC and HMI programming, and commissioning for commercial and industrial facilities
  • Perform FAT, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities
  • Project scheduling as well as in the development of instrumentation and controls estimates
  • Ensure that all work is properly checked in accordance with Tetra Tech and outside applicable Standards & Procedures
  • Collect field information, equipment specification, drawing development, material take-offs, cost estimate input, schedule input, Hazop participation, code review, technical studies, report preparation, commissioning, operator and maintenance staff training
  • Coordinate  activities with Project Managers and Technical Engineers of all disciplines
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and guidelines
  • Travel - Ranges from occasional (one day trips) to frequent (two to three days trips), with travel time often concentrated in bunches.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • 10+ years of progressive experience as an instrumentation and control engineer in heavy industry is require
  • Hardware/software troubleshooting skills
  • PLC/PAC Programming experience using industry standard software packages  
  • Experience with Schneider/Modicon controllers and/or Rockwell products is preferred
  • Experience with industrial network design and implementation
  • Proficiency with engineering software and engineering database programs (Microsoft Office, AVEVA, Elecdes, InTools/Smart Plant Instrumentation, etc.)
  • Experience in HMI development
  • Strong interpersonal skills required for internal team interfaces and client liaison
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to new projects and quickly understand the defined scope
  • Fluency in one or more control system languages will be considered an asset
  • Experience with instrumentation design will be considered an asset
  • Work experience in the Pulp & Paper, Oil Refining, Oil Sands, Gas, Power Generation and Mining sectors considered an asset
  • Demonstrates project management skills
  • Adherence to safety policies and procedures
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, CSA and ISA standards;

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Instrumentation or related field
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation
  • Formal training from control system vendor or industry software tools considered an asset
  • Qualifications in Functional Safety Systems design

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Travel within Western Canada in accordance with public health safety precautions periodically to client sites may be required
  • Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol screen
  • Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
