Tetra Tech's Norfolk, VA office is seeking a Mid to Senior Structural Engineer with a minimum of 7 years' experience working in the DoD, municipal, industrial and commercial sector. The Mid to Senior Level Engineer will be responsible for the supervision of more junior level engineers, designers and direct the engineering/design activities on structural and civil projects. The candidate must have the ability to perform structural calculations for steel and concrete structures, as well as foundations. A solid knowledge of civil site works, grading, drainage and site infrastructure is also a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities will include:
The Mid to Senior Level Engineer shall demonstrate experience leading engineering projects in a Project Engineering and/or Lead Engineering role. The candidate will be capable of committing to and maintaining a project schedule. The candidate will report directly to the Civil Department Lead, Project Managers, and/or Principal Engineers. The successful candidate will also work directly with clients to provide solutions on moderate and complex structural/civil projects. Some field work at client sites will be required. This may include field measurements, attending meetings, reviewing drawings and designs. Other duties may be assigned. Knowledge of drafting/design software is essential, and a working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D applications is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Candidate may supervise other engineers assigned to projects. Candidate will supervise and direct drafting and design personnel. The direct management of engineering projects may be required if the successful candidate can demonstrate that ability or has the desire to do so.

   

 

Qualifications and/or Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Candidate shall demonstrate a minimum of 7 years of progressive experience. A combination of experience working directly for an operating company and a consulting firm is a plus. Candidate should have knowledge of process plants/facilities and shall possess an understanding of the safety requirements associated with the DoD, municipal, industrial and commercial sectors. Candidate will have an excellent knowledge of the engineering codes associated with steel and concrete design, will have the ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Registration as a Professional Engineer is required. Experience in the use of structural software; RISA, STAAD, RAM Steel, SAP 2000 is highly recommended. Education and Experience:
Minimum BS degree in engineering from an accredited university is required. A degree in Civil or Structural engineering is preferred but may be replaced with experience in the Structural/Civil disciplines. An MS degree or higher is a plus. A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience is required for this position.

Other Skills and/or Requirements:
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidate must be fluent in English. Candidate will be required to write reports, emails recommendations, and project specifications. Knowledge of a second language is a plus.

Excellent computer skills are essential. Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint is a must, with knowledge of other software; Microsoft Project, Primavera 6, AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D is a plus.
