Purposes

The FamilySearch Web Developer 5 works in a leadership role. This position is an expert in industry practices, organization policies and good judgment in selecting techniques for designing, defining, developing, testing, and implementing projects of a diverse scope and scale. This position has responsibilities for technical oversight for one or more development teams and is expected to participate fully as a leader of each development team. This role helps in setting the overall technical direction for the larger web development team. This position may also serve as a technical lead for a team of 2 to 10 members. This position is responsible for technical leadership in architecture, design, and implementation.

This individual works with divine guidance to provide or support technology that furthers the mission of the Church and reflects the eternal impact of the gospel.

Responsibilities

Contribute to site-wide front-end development strategy

Partner with key cross-functional team members to determine strategy and priorities

Generate development plans and review other developers' scoping for all features in a product vertical Lead all front-end development for a product vertical, as well as multiple horizontal initiatives, directing the work of other developers in product vertical

Seek out and understand users' needs and evangelize when evaluating work

Deliver high-quality communication on development strategy and implementation

Build and maintain relationships with other teams to promote collaboration

Advocate mission and goals of FamilySearch broadly

Drive adoption of patterns and processes that improve organizational efficiency

Responsible for mentoring junior members of team and monitoring their progress

Source and recruit world-class team members

Develop global performance and maintainability improvements

Seeks out new processes to improve collaboration and productivity within the team

Estimates and scopes projects with no guidance

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience; Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

10+ years relevant experience

Demonstrated Skills & Abilities:

Proven leadership in the development of multiple horizontal initiatives/patterns

Recognized and sought out by others as an expert in their area

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Expert in the user experience within their product area

Has in depth knowledge of JavaScript, including design, coding, and testing patterns

Solid understanding of basic DOM scripting and client-side behavior

Knows current trends in front-end architecture (performance, accessibility, usability)

Has in-depth knowledge of HTML and CSS, emphasizing the separation of structure and style

Can debug cross-browser layout and behavior issues

This job operates in a professional office environment

To successfully perform the essential functions of the job there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using computer monitors/equipment

Worthiness Qualification

Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
