The Medical Center of Aurora, the first community hospital in the Denver Metro area to receive three-time Magnet designation for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), is a 346-bed acute care hospital located in Aurora, Colorado. The Medical Center of Aurora is comprised of six campuses in Aurora and Centennial, Colo., including the Main Campus, located at Interstate 225 and Mississippi, the North Campus Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, Centennial Medical Plaza, Saddle Rock ER, Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital, Spalding Rehabilitation at P/SL, and a medical office building at Green Valley Ranch. Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Responsible evaluation of behavioral health clients in both an acute and outpatient setting to determine appropriate level of inclusion in art therapy. Determines strategies for therapeutic interventions through the use of art in both an individual and group setting. Participates in the interdisciplinary process of individualized treatment planning. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS-Healthcare provider through the American Heart Association. CPI certification within 6 months of hire.

B. Education: Master's degree and licensure as Art Therapist.


Experience in Behavioral Health related field preferred.


C. Experience: One to three years of clinical/direct behavioral healthcare experience preferred.


D. Special Qualifications: Must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and able to work with a highly diverse population. Must be knowledgeable of ADAD and JCAHO standards. Must be knowledgeable of behavioral health evaluation and consultation processes. Must have ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work in high stress environment. Must be able to apply critical thinking and formulate diagnostic impressions based upon review of systems, history, symptoms and current presentation. Must be able to provide crisis intervention and utilize system resources/referrals.

Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Director Clinical Services. Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.


Populations and Ages of Patients Served: This position requires knowledge of growth and developmental needs of patients and families. Personnel in this position must recognize and respond to the behaviors of patients and families in each age category. The employee must be able to demonstrate the special skills required to care for patients and their families according to standards. (The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training or experience.)
